Having listened to this album again today for only the second time since buying the new version, I have to say how dissapointed I am with the Atmos mix, its thin sounding to my ears, especially compared to the warm sounding orig mix. And some of the sections are mixed so low as to be barely audible. What a wasted opportunity, bring on the Steven Wilson definitive mix of this amazing album

Prefer the DVD Audio much more

I haven't heard that. Is it that much differen't from the SDE Blu-ray disc quad mix?
It's a correct version of the same quad mix. From halfway through the SDE has delays on some channels but not others and front left is a lot louder than the others, both of which make the mix sound very front left dominated.

Than that is the one I prefer regardless. I have both... bluray and dvda of tubular bells
Obviously you can have a preference in terms of Tub Bells versions. But it's certainly important to note they are very different albums that came out at different times under different conditions with some very different participants, and so unable to be compared in terms of remixing of a single recording. I love them both though, for me, nothing can ever beat the freshness of the original. :)
