My player is randomly freezing at which point the audio and video are distorted. Has anyone experienced this?

Might be something cleaning the lens would help. But to answer you question, no. Never seen that on either of my 103s.
Well dirty discs and HDMI handshake issues are not unusual for me...that said, if all else fails Oppo still services their BD players...

You probably know all this, but just in case:
First thing would be to unplug the player for an hour or so; before re-plugging, push and hold the On button for 5 seconds. If that doesn't work, reset the player to factory settings (after saving or writing down your settings). If reset does not work, you might want to clean the laser lens with alcohol and a q-tip. That requires opening the unit and loosening the audio board above the transport. I've done it with my BDP95 and It's really not that difficult.
Beyond that, it could be a dying transport or faulty circuit board. I would email or call OPPO repair -- but I don't know if they service Canada.

I haven’t had that issue, but I have had mine not play video from blu-rays from time to time - usually when I have people in the room. Unplugging it for a few hours (don’t really know the minimum) cleared it up.
Oppo service seems to feel there’s some program contaminating the software. It’s connnected to the Internet, so who knows? It hasn’t happened for about a year now.

That's weird. wonder what could affect the firmware? I assume your network is private...not an assurance but some help.
Hard to know what might be going on.
The player has access to my NAS (well, it did until it died a week ago), so perhaps there was something there that it “thought” was an update file. But I have no information as to how it would recognize such a thing.
This problem started when I touched my amp and got a static discharge. I didn't say anything initially because I was hoping there might be another reason. I contacted Oppo Service but they can't do anything because I can't repeat the issue on a consistent basis. They had me disconnect everything and then re-attach components one at a time but nothing triggered the issue. I did a factory reset as @hafquark suggested.
I switched the front L and R from the Stereo Analog outs to the multichannel FL and FR. The player did freeze - there was video distortion but no audio distortion which must mean that the problem is with the Stereo Analog outs. Sometimes I can play an entire disc with no issues - so the problem is very random. I have since run a grounding wire so I can touch that before I touch the Oppo or the amps.

Static electrical discharge like that can wreak havoc on micro electronics. I had one discharge that made my Oppo 205 freeze, but all I had to do was turn it off and on again to unfreeze it. I guess I got lucky that I did not damage anything. But now, every time I walk across the carpeted floor, I touch something metal to discharge the static electricity before I touch my equipment.
