Hi,
my name is Paolo, this is my first post in this forum.
I have recently become passionate about multichannel audio and I bought my first AVR last year (Marantz Cinema 70s).
I have since listened to several music titles in the various multichannel formats available and my preference, both for reasons of sound and for the type of musical genre, is for the quadraphonic format, especially for those albums in which the mixing has been done in a very discrete way, where there is a marked separation of the instruments on the surround front.
In addition to being a music enthusiast I am also a part time musician and have recorded two albums with my band Feet Down Below. Our most recent work "Music From The Stratosphere" was released in 2024 and was mixed in stereo and now we have just finished remixing it in quadraphonic and are ready to release the album in this format.
Our goal is to soon release a quadraphonic version with the center channel and LFE silent and make them available through the IAA website, and a format encoded with Quark software to provide a stereo version that can be uploaded to platforms such as YouTube, thus making our album available to those who have some form of quadraphonic decoder.
During the quadraphonic mix we took records such as TDSOTM and the Doobie Brothers records as references to try to recreate that sense of separation of the instruments. Even though we did not produce the album with the quadraphonic format in mind, we tried to separate the instruments as much as possible. Working on the new mix in this format gave us great satisfaction also because we think that some of the songs on the album have had a great improvement thanks to the increased spatial and dynamic capacity of the quadraphonic format.
This gave us a great boost, in fact we are already working on new songs starting directly from a quadraphonic setup in the recording studio.
We think that the quadraphonic format album will be available by the end of March 2025, while we will publish some songs in encoded format as a preview on our YouTube Channel.
I would thank everyone for all the precious informations that I have found in this forum and I hope you will like our music beyond the proposed format.
