1K Club - QQ Shooting Star
Not that I am looking a gift horse in the mouth but I was hoping the next PF release was going to be a deluxe Meddle or Obscured By Clouds with a 5.1 & Atmos.
I was in Italy in November so took a couple days and checked out the Pompeii ruins. They have quite a bit of PF memorabilia when you enter the amphitheater and have Echoes from the movie looping on a screen at the end of a long tunnel filled with PF tour posters, etc. At some point in the past they have done screenings of the movie in the amphitheater. The new release sounds like a good time for another screening at the amphitheater.I believe this deserves a dedicated thread. Info comes from SHF:
While not IMAX, yesterday Cinemark posted a listing for "Pink Floyd at Pompeii - MCMLXXII" with an April 24th 2025 release date. The description is as follows:
"The newly restored 4K version, scanned from the original negative, presents the first full 90-minute cut, combining the 60-minute source edit of the performance, with additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments covering the recording of 1973's The Dark Side of the Moon. The amphitheater concert includes performances of seminal tracks Echoes and One of These Days, alongside earlier hits Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun and A Saucerful of Secrets. Also features a brand-new audio remix by Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree, preserving the authenticity and spirit of the original recording."
Quite an interesting Atmos mix. It sounds like Dave's voice is slightly off to the right and Rick's to the left, but both are also heard in the center channel. The guitar and organ are almost completely isolated in the side speakers. The drums (sounds like a single mono track?) are spread across all three front speakers.
Thanks for this report. Not being a streamer I am anxious to hear more reviews of the mix.Quite an interesting Atmos mix. I hate to be a party pooper but I don't really see anyone other than James Guthrie doing any new remixes for the 50th of WYWH.Preordered from Amazon. The chances of a 50th Wish You Were Here set remastered by Steven Wilson seem higher now. Come on Sony you spent all that money to acquire their catalog, now do something awesome with it.
Sold out already Col !!Pre order is up at Rarewaves UK:

I've got this on repeat...
The quadraphonic release was allegedly limited to New York and Los Angeles. The regular 4-track LCRS mix was pretty common for a while, but it looks like we're never going to get either it or the rare quad version on home video.A quad mix was done and put out on 35mm film with 4 track magnetic soundtrack. That format was usually used as left, centre, right and mono surround but for Pompeii it was used for quad. The surround magnetic track is half the width of the fronts unfortunately so one of the rear channels is noisier than the other in quad. There is a rip around from a 35mm print of the quad audio but it was very noisy. Oxford Dickie reduced the noise and put out a version on his old blog. Hopefully there is a quad master tape somewhere.
Sounds great, but it's not like SW to have almost nothing in the heights? A little disappointed, hope the rest is better.I've got this on repeat...
