Didn’t the version of live in Pompeii that’s in the early years box set (DVD and BR) and the stand alone (book set) versions that are available separately already have a 5.1 remixed soundtrack? I’m pretty sure it does. All the other versions are in stereo only and there’s been a lot of those in the past.
Either way a really clean video and new SW soundtrack would be welcome. It’s a stone cold classic video.

Hmm the Cinemark link is now down. I wonder what’s going on here.

If Steven Wilson were involved that would be amazing. Wilson is a Floyd super fan and I’m sure would do a great job and respect the material the way he has for Tull and King Crimson. Though unfortunately I don’t believe Wilson has previously been given the keys to any Floyd remixes other than Wet Dream by Richard Wright (which is beautiful btw).

I do have the Pompeii blu ray from the Obfuscation box set, and it’s less that ideal for three reasons: 1) the treble in the 5.1 audio mix is really cranked and harsh, 2) it’s missing the song where the dog sings, 3) it doesn’t have the extra interviews and such (“I’d like to think that oysters transcend national barriers”).

I know some people don’t like the Director’s Cut version where the interviews are interspersed, and they just want the concert film. I personally like both versions equally.

It’s always been a little unclear to me how much audio/video from the original tapes still survives. But in any event, if we could get a definitive stand alone blu ray with a Steven Wilson mix that would be awesome.

Interesting news!

Watched it yesterday. Regarding the video, I've a very clear idea what I want to see. And what I don't want.

History:
  • First seen in a cinema. Long long ago.
  • Started with the VHS.
  • Then I bought the DVD.
  • Later I bought "The Early Years 1972 Obfusc/ation."

DVD:
The TV version on the DVD is the best. (see under extras).
No interruption by Interviews.
The Pompeii Intro belongs to the film. It starts with sound only, later you see Pictures of Pompeii and then the roadies setting up the set.
Includes: Mademoiselle Nobs

But:
Only DD 2.0 and 4:3.
Echoes should not be divided in two parts.

Obfusc/ation:
Picture and sound are good.
Echoes is one piece.
No interruption by Interviews.

But:
Pompeii Intro???
Mademoiselle Nobs is missing. The howling dog blues is funny!
And I DON'T LIKE THE COMPUTER ANIMATIONS at all.

So:
+16:9 (or original format), HD (sure), 5.1 (or more), lossless sound
+With Pompeii Intro as in the TV version
+Including Mademoiselle Nobs
+Echoes as one piece
-No interruptions by Interviews or anything like that
-No computer animations.

This is one of my favorites!

Same! I remember quite well the midnight showing of the film while in high school, 1979 or 1980. I went with my buddies, smoked a doob, was an awesome experience! Then bought the VHS, the DVD, then Early Years :)

The dog howling in Seamus was kinda mind blowing! Here's a blurb I just found
Film director Adrian Maben captured Pink Floyd's only live performance of "Seamus" (in a greatly altered form, excluding lyrics, and retitled "Mademoiselle Nobs") in his film Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. To recreate the song, David Gilmour played harmonica instead of singing and Roger Waters played one of Gilmour's Stratocaster guitars. A female Borzoi (Russian Wolfhound) named Nobs, which belonged to Madonna Bouglione (the daughter of circus director Joseph Bouglione), was brought to the studio to provide howling accompaniment as Seamus did in the album version. There is also an audible bass guitar in this recording, likely overdubbed during mixing of the film soundtrack at another studio.[6] For the 2016 surround sound mix of the film, released as part of the box set The Early Years 1965–1972 (2016), "Mademoiselle Nobs" was omitted for undisclosed reasons.

Well if there is a quad mix available..., Steven Wilson has a history of including any quad mixes with 5.1 etc.
Such as he did with all of the new remixes of Jethro Tull's 70's quad albums.
You’re confusing correlation with causation.

From what I've heard, the new audio mixes will blow away anything previously released.

not his decision. he has nothing to do with that.
thankfully it appears that the people who work on these Jethro Tull releases are well researched and their tapes are well archived and they are of the belief that these releases should include as much content as is worth releasing
