I do hope it won't be as expensive as The Early Years was. I had to take my wallet to a specialist afterward because it was suffering from separation anxiety.

Almost has to be less. But then I'm a fan of pre DSOTM mostly and post Wall pretty much not even a little bit, so I might be skewed.

Where is the "mainstream" on the post Wall Floyd now? "Mainstream" Floyd fans are still Dark Side Of The Moon and "that song about school" right?

I got into Floyd in the late '80s when A Momentary Lapse of Reason and Delicate Sound of Thunder were their latest offerings and as such, I've got a soft spot for the studio album and the live concert, well that's just great, obviously. I actually prefer A Momentary Lapse of Reason to The Division Bell and Yet Another Movie is an absolute monster of a track - especially on Delicate Sound Thunder when it rolls seamlessly into Round and Round.

Posted on the AFG Forum, unconfirmed source so take this with a grain of salt. Also, keep in mind that DVDs and Blu-rays will most probably contain duplicate material. I'm assuming that the following was most likely leaked by a distributor.

The TLY box contains about 20 compact cd's, dvd's and blu ray's and covers the period between the late 80's to these days. It relies mainly on image support rather than sound.

Uhmm, not a 100% reliable source (a nice chap nonetheless), but I'm checking with him privately. Let's see what I get.
If you're sharing, my guess is that it won't be too far from reality.

On the PULSE, the music video of Learning To Fly is 5.1. The rears don't kick in until 2:42. Almost a nice MCH nugget.

A really nice find that I had never noticed. I listened to it very quickly, need to repeat with more time to get a better impression on the mix quality.
Thanks for posting!

So, looks like Carrera Panamericana and Colours of Infinity OSTs are NOT going to be included. Also according to Ron, more DVD discs than blu ray in this set. Luckily, this is turning out to be really easy on the wallet. I was probably going to bite anyway, but something like a $150-199 price makes it a lot easier.

Forgive me if this seems irreverent :) but... we've had the Early Years, we await th Later Years. So that leaves "The Middle Years." Which really isn't the most enticing title for what will surely be a vast and vastly expensive box set....

If Animals is released as an immersion set, wouldn't that cover the middle years via the other immersion sets?

Very true. And the sad part then (for me anyway) is that once The Later Years box and the Animals immersion set are released, the only album that will not have been covered by either a mega-box or an immersion set will be The Final Cut. I know lots of folks don't care for that one, but it's always been one of my favorites. Would certainly love to have an expanded set for it. Given Gilmour's dislike for the album though, I can't imagine that such a set would ever be a high priority for the band. 😢

I agree that's sad, but likely true. I love TFC, though I think it's half baked in a few spots. Lots of passion, cynicism and sadness I can connect with.

what about The Wall in surround, we still need that one due to the Immersion set dropping the ball on that one.?

what about The Wall?

I wasn't referring specifically to surround sound content in my above post. I was just pointing out that pretty much all other albums in the band's catalog have been covered by some sort of expanded set that included outtakes, live stuff, etc... And of course we got an immersion set for The Wall some time back which was unfortunately lacking any surround content. 😢

Sadly, yes... much as I love the Immersions, they were very clumsily packaged ("here's a box - just dump everything in"), and they lack the attention to detail of the Early Years box - the scattering of Household Objects across two boxes, the mix of unreleased live and studio without any real regard for context, etc.

I'm curious to see what style packaging the Later Years will arrive in. I'm imagining something similar to the Early Years - meaning, at some point, maybe we'll see the Immersions repackaged to match, with maybe some extra material (the rest of the Wall demos, for example) to persuade us to re-buy them. After all, it's been close to a decade since the Immersions were released - that's a long time to go without a new DSOTM package coming along.
