THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE???????
THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE???????
Just wait until 2030...a lot of Y2K "remediation" consisted of simply moving the problem out until then. When you realize how much our day to day life depends on information being passed around digitally from computer to computer, you also realize the epic, literal, meltdown our world would experience if something happened to bring it all down. Even scarier when there are people out there trying to make that very thing happen. Let's hope the resolution is quick.
..............enough to make your toes curl, I see it already has!
AT LEAST IT LETS US WEE LEPRECHAUNS OFF THE HOOK!
I’m still receiving christmas cards, all of them posted at least a week before the 25th, was starting to think nobody liked meI'm still waiting for my last DV order, it usually doesn't take this long! At least it is nice to see that I'm not alone, I'll have to be patient a bit longer.
What I never understand is why it takes so long to recover from ransomware attacks and why anyone ever considers paying. Any organisation should simply be able to restore from backups. On a more serious note the problems with UK royal Mail continue Royal Mail hit by Russia-linked ransomware attack
I also received a message today from a discogs seller I bought an item from, saying:A package that I've been waiting on from Burning Shed that was in the possession of the Royal Mail service on January 7th has finally made its way to New York. That only took three weeks! Hopefully that means that I will have it in the next couple of days. And hopefully this means that they have resolved all of the problems from their cyber attacks. Those next SDE discs are supposed to ship soon!
That flushing sound you hear is my Gilbert O’Sullivan SDE Series disc (shipped Jan. 10) arriving at a sorting facility in Flushing, NYA package that I've been waiting on from Burning Shed that was in the possession of the Royal Mail service on January 7th has finally made its way to New York. Making life better by making it worse..........Recently I have been experiencing very long delays of international mail originating from Japan (except from CDJapan) and the EU where the vast majority of my media purchases originate.. Specifically from Discog sellers shipping registered mail to me. I have never experienced any issues for decades until the last 2-3 months where trackable packages seem to get stuck in limbo where status updates on both sides of the ponds seem to show packages disappearing into a Bermuda Triangle. Neither side of the postal tracking systems seem to be able to clarify the issue. The package tracking never seems to be updated and remains in limbo.
Upon a cursory search I discovered what I believe may be the problem:
"The delays appear to largely stem from a new system the Postal Service began rolling out last fall that will eventually funnel all the nation's letters and packages through a consolidated network of 60 regional distribution centers — similar to the airlines' hub-and-spoke model."

“It is clear that there has been a quantifiable decline in service across several regions during and after the implementation of new facility types,” the commission wrote.
The commission notes that on-time performance is declining nationwide and that less than 85% of all first-class mail is arriving on time.
“The Postal Service and the commission have a duty to understand whether, and to what extent, the network changes are contributing to this decline before further deployment of the network changes,” the commission wrote.

Personally I will be avoiding perusing USPS and use FedEx, UPS or DHL instead until this issue is resolved. At a higher cost to me, the consumer, of course.
