Hang on Dave, what about the two critical changes I thought we'd sort of agreed were vital? Namely-
1.Pre-processing for improved stereo to surround synthesis
2.An Overall volume control
Well of course that goes without saying. Yes, quite right. The overall volume control will come as part of the gain structure overhaul.

Just checked, and the evaluation module is out of stock.
Ahoy!!

Yes, it's not up for preorder yet because it has changed so much from the V1 - not conceptually so much - but there's enough topography change, power supply etc that I'm not comfortable putting up pre-orders for that one, I want to test the pcb first and get some glamour shots for the product page.
Renders are well and good but they're less tangible / convincing. Especially after seeing one too many kickstarter projects full of renders turn into vapourware.

Just to be clear, the V4 news is not an announcement, just a twinkle of a concept of an idea of a thought I had once in a truck-stop bathroom during a dream I had one time when I thought I was a convoy leader shipping petrol during the apocalypse. I'm a tad overloaded and the pre-amp is still first on the block, any V4 would be at least 1-2 years off I think. Unless I get better support here and a less unruly boss who doesn't beat me for requesting additional gruel.

(for wishlist):

UD-4 decoder (AFAIK, the Denon UDA-100 is the only one)

The only thing more lame than a new CD-4 decoder would be a UD-4 decoder. For the 30 something albums encoded by it and certainly none in the future . The boys in Australia need to find what people want tomorrow.

What they want is the Involve encoded content. :D

Much as I hate to say it, the majority of people don't know what they want until they're told (not QQ members, you're all highly informed and joy-loving bunch of nutters) . That's why having a Dolby logo on a product is as much a marketing strategy as a technology strategy. People just want the best they can afford, and half of them wouldn't know the difference.

I'm a retro-futurist, personally. I'm a big fan of honouring the past while looking to the future. I'm also a big preservationist. So much media from the last 100 years has been lost, and I would like to do my part with the power I have to preserve even 30 recordings. Even 20. Even 1 single recording. But the format is important too, to me. So if we can cover not just the majority but also a few fringe formats, I'm for it. And the other thing is - if I can do it without too much hassle, even as a hidden feature - and make 10 people really happy, I believe it's still worth it.

I'm one. Nine more to go. Thank you for and the Involve Team for all you've done.

Kinda off topic, however...how about an Involve Audio soundbar with the TSS tech?

Or maybe a soundbar w/TSS using electrostatic speakers (AFAIK, using ES speakers would be unique)?

Kirk Bayne

Hey Kirk
TSS is specifically designed to work with stereo speakers, using HRTF. It works on around 70 % of heads. It works best if you look like Dave or me because we were the model!

Actually we have not tried it with a sound bar ( yuck poo), so I would love to know if it does anything.

We did a bunch of work on electrostatic soundbars and electrostatic side speakers on TVs years ago and the result was WOW! But we could not get any TV manufacturers to look at it....stupid schmucks. The sound was huge and dimensional with good bass reinforcement due to the TV acting as a baffle. Frustrating really.

I love this!

Hot off the Chinese presses, we received the new batch of SM V3 boards today, see below:

And the good news is the first randomly picked boards tested fine!!

Hey Chucky & Overture! Just bought one of your newest batch and have a question. I use a Denon AVR-X8500HA receiver and plan to use your Surround Master v3 to enhance 2 channel audio from both my Technics turntable and Oppo UDP-203. Would it be possible to feed the stereo audio from the zone 2 (rca outputs) off my Denon and loop it back through the multi-channel input for surround playback in zone 1? Or do you recommend a direct connection from the turntable (post-preamp to rca inputs) and blu-ray (optical)? And... bonus question, if I have Steely Dan's quad pressings of "Can't Buy A Thrill" and "Countdown to Ecstasy", will the Surround Master v3 be able to decode the quad signal as intended from a Denon stereo cartridge? If so, what setting do you recommend? Thanks!

Lastly.. if I have this plugged into a switched (smart) outlet, does it power up automatically when the power comes on? Or will I need to physically press a power button each time I want to use it, like my turntable preamp?

Err, Umm

I am a rather large fool at the best of times and I am a bit dumb on these damned receivers. Some of the genius guys in this forum will no doubt correct me if I am wrong!!

Here is your rear panel:

I think you are correct to take the L/R zone 2 output and put the SM decode to the input multichannel zone 1.

Re those 2 recordings, do you know what format they were recorded in? Your best default mode if its not SQ is the "INVOLVE " mode for all else.

If you have a "switched " smart outlet, plug the SM into it and leave the SM on/ off button in the inwards ON position and all should automatically turn on.
