Thank you so much! Do you know what settings we would lose / need to reconfigure if we replaced the CMOS battery?
As far as i know its only the clock. I dont believe the bios settings are affected. The dead battery does cause a fairly long delay on boot as the system tries to figure out the problem and warn you about a battery failure and CMOS checksum error.

Thanks for the above information on the Synology NAS and WD Red HDs. I guess I could justify this by setting up a RAID back up for everything besides music and movies including family photos and other back ups. I have a couple of external HDS with copied files but this would be more organized and safe.
And I wouldn't have to get up off the couch anymore..........

But Ohhh I want a digital clock too!
Could you add one to the NUC with a blue LED light to match the surround master?

Wondering if somebody somewhere implemented something similar on Intel based NUC PCs running Kodi or LibreElec. I've searched a bit but did not find anything.
Kodi can drive LCDProc which in turn can drive multiple displays. See https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:XBMC_LCDproc for some details. It can drive quite a few different displays and I think is reasonably up-to-date (although code can always be updated of course).

If you have details of how your current VFD is driven (Kodi addon ? backend driver) then it might be possible to replicate that with LibreElec.

Here is the Github link of the driver : https://github.com/roidy/service.odroidn2.oled
It is a Kodi addon installed from the latest zip file found there.

Just checked to try to find the topic about this in the CoreElec forum, but it seems that they are currently on hiatus and "taking some time off to think about the future of the project". Their forum is not available anymore.

Found also this : https://github.com/Pako2/esp-oledproc
Seems to be a remote OLED display for Kodi and replaces the server part of the LCDproc system. Uses an ESP8266 module and connects with wifi to Kodi / LCDproc module to display remotely the infos. Seems promising.

Oooh, I have several ESP8266's in the bottom of a drawer not doing anything. Currently, I have some scripts on my desktop that query all th Kodi instances in my house and display what each is playing / doing. Remote display would be a much lighter solution and look cooler.

ROUND #1 MEMBERS

Your NUCs have been shipped. The estimated arrival time and shipping cost varies with your location. Shipments within the US are estimated to arrive March 10th - 12th. All shipments were made via USPS. I will be contacting each of you shortly to give you the final balance and the tracking info. This balance covers the actual shipping cost and an adder of $4.62 to cover shipping supplies and a few other misc items HomerJAU has already discussed elsewhere.

As before, please send the final payment to [email protected] using Paypal's friends and family option. Enjoy!

@HomerJAU: I've already lost track of what you told me about tagging and playing audio-only MKV's from IAA in Kodi--although I think it was just "rename each file with an .MKA extension"? And then I can a) tag them with mp3tag or MMH and b) play them in Kodi just like any other audio file?

If for some reason I decided to keep them in the MKV format (I dunno...so as to retain the still-image track artwork from IAA, maybe), then would they technically need to be placed and scanned into Kodi's video library instead?

You just need to tag the MKV files and the NUCs Kodi version will sacn them into your library. However, an MKV file has video so you will see the video when Kodi plays it.

If you don't want to see the video, then remove the video stream or rename the file .mka and Kodi will ignore the video stream.

MMH 9 Beta 6 will tag the MKVs, optionally create a tagged MKA copy with its 'Chapter Editor' tool (MMH 9 beta 6 only):

Ive been meaning to mention this. The version of kodi i have been running is about 2 years old, maybe older. Im one of those if it aint broke dont fix it kinda guys. It runs off of a mini windows based pc, small but considerably larger than a NUC.

Besides the upgraded visuals and expanded artist artwork that Garry has put together here and the capability to read mkv/mka tags (a true game changer), one of my favorite things is the remote. I still use a wireless keyboard to control the mini pc in my surround rig. i have used a keyboard for control since i started using kodi. But those days are gone. The functionality of these little remotes and the ease with which it can control the interface is quite commendable.

I'll still keep a keyboard nearby because its needed with the windows PC. i use it for other stuff like netflix, sirius XM and such, but for everyday kodi usage, that little remote is unparalelled in my experience.

I bought 60 of those remotes, shipped to NY. Thinking 'heaps of spares' in case of duds and may be some extra orders. 60 of them now gone!

Every single one has found a new home. Zero in stock at the NUC factory. The only ones still with Paul are allocated to orders,

I bought 15 remotes for AU. 7 orders here so far (shipping on Tues AU time), All my NUCs are gone, but 7 more on their way. from US.

So this 'little' project is going to ship over 70 NUCs!!! Incredible really.
