I remember seeing this movie, and remembering that at the beginning of the film, George Segal's boss in the movie, played by Ed McMahon, had a quad 8 track player in his office, and he played a tape on screen. I remembered it as an AKAI, but as you can see it's the Technics. The tape, as we can clearly see, is one of those cheap stereo tapes. BUMMER!

Anyone else remember quad stuff in a movie or TV show?

I can't remember if it was an episode of Starsky & Hutch or Chips.... but it was an episode about a gang of theives running around steeling 8-track decks out of cars. Memory is fuzzy as to whether any were Quad.

hi Jon

yes i remember in a 1978 movie " Foul Play " with Goldie Hawn/ Chevy Chase there is a part with Dudley Moore he mention hidden speakes!!!! QUADRAPHONIC sound to Goldie, and she says FINE, the Bad thing is he's playing the Bee Gees "Staying Alive" this song is not quad and the receiver looks like a stereo one, thanks Gerardodvd-Q4.jpg

The new Starsky and Hutch have a Teac 4-ch in the van when Huggy is carrying a wire on the golf course

30 minutes into 1974's "Day Of The the Dolphin" staring George C. Scott, you'll see a stack of over 20 new Quadraphonic Akai Reel to Reel Decks in one of laboratory scenes.

You guys read Playboy?
- Well, yeah.
- Yeah.
Did you enjoy
this month's article... on how to hook up
your quadraphonic stereo system?
- What are you talkin' about?
- I think I missed that one.

In Malcolm in the middle, Hal clears out the garage and finds his old quad set up. He sits in the middle with 4 speakers placed on chairs (or something). I can't remember what happens but I bet it gets destroyed.

There's a book by Philip K Dick called A Scanner Darkly. It was recently made into a movie with a kind of live action animation drawing style. Anyways in the book one of the characters talks about having an inflatable quadraphonic stereo console system in his garage that he can carry like a suitcase. What model was that?@:

The 70's were a great time......:smokin

I just was watching the movie "Backdraft" starring Kurt Russell. Several times in the movie, Russell's character is an 8-track advocate and both in his truck and at a boat an 8-track machine is playing with old tapes laying around. In two scenes, a grey WB Q8 can be seen among the tapes, but the shot is too distant to make out which one it is.

This doesn't really count, but on the recent Barrett-Jackson auctions, up on the block was a '70 'Cuda with a factory AM/8-track deck. They pulled out the tape to show the camera and it was the Quad Doobie Brothers' Captain and Me tape. You could see the notch and everything.

I was pretty excited by seeing that.

Must've just been Kurt's character for that movie. When I met him while shooting "Miracle" his comment about my Gremlin was less than flattering. My witty retort was "Coming from a dude driving a powder blue Dodge Dart, I'm hardly offended!" My Gremlin at that time had an under dash Motorola Q8 deck.
