For what it's worth, I've had several unsuccessful attempts of somebody trying to use my credit card about 3 months ago. They were in the UK, but so am I. I had used this card at SDE 2-3 times max. I had no issues with my previous card though through which I'd been buying all the SDE releases since inception. Obviously not enough to suggest SDE's fault, but I'll be switching to PayPal for future purchases just in case.

PayPal has been safe for me over the years. Plus you very rarely have to fill in your personal details on vendors web sites after clicking on the PayPal button.
In the UK it's good practice to link a credit card to your PayPal account as any purchase over £100.00 is legally protected under Section 75 of The Consumer Credit Act 1974. Maybe other countries offer similar protections.
Beware! My credit card was hacked as well in the US shortly after making this purchase. Replacing it is a pain!!!! I did not use PayPal - I certainly will next time. Had fraudulent charges to a health care system in Pakistan!

Is all this credit card hacking attributable to SDE using a third party service for its payment? I failed to read the pages toward the end of this thread, and now I'm regretting having used my credit card. Has anyone reported the problem to SDE and/or gotten a response from them about it?
I might as well add my data point. Bought this release with my Apple Card, was too lazy to do the PayPal song and dance and safari suggested I use it and it would auto fill.
I’ve been checking my statements meticulously since these reports have been coming in and still the only charge on my card of recent is SDE on Tuesday. No other activity.
There’s a very good chance that the cards being used were hacked via other means

I reported the credit card stuff to SDE and this is the response I got:

I have checked your details and you don't have an account with you so we are not holding any credit card details.
Even if you did have any account I could not alter anything to do with your card as it is cecire - only you can do that with proper passwords etc.

The way these online shops like SDE work is there's a 3rd party dealing with the card details. If they get hacked, it'll be on the news for sure. Mostly these sorts of problems are about people using the same password on multiple sites.

From someone who's been hacked twice now RIGHT AFTER purchasing on their site (and one of many) this is a total whitewash of an answer showing no responsibility on SDE part. Sorry, but that will be my last order from them.
2nd time being hacked immediately after a purchase from your website. How apropos several hacked too...this release is definitely as it's title...

BTW, another option is to utilize a service like www.privacy.com - what I like about this service is it locks the dedicated virtual Credit Card to a single retailer / site. The downside is it pulls directly from one's checking account instead of acting as an actual Credit Card. For some that could be an issue with large ticket items. I have over a dozen virtual cards with specific maximum limits set, which also can be very useful for recurring charges too.
I recall my CC has offered a program of single-use numbers that are only valid for the transaction you used it for. Any other uses of that number would be rejected.

I use a burner card (not one tied to payments/regular use) for random online purchases when possible, as well as Paypal. I try to keep my primary card protected to save the aggravation having it replaced would cause me.

If nobody has been hacked other than in the USA, then may be there is a weak link there, depending on the provider, websites can be mirrored in various locations, so could a hacker have got in only to the mirrored site?
The only cards of mine which have been hacked in the past were linked to the VISA payment system, and they really went for it, took a while to get the money back.

Not after SDE... But around ten years ago I had my Barclays credit card details stolen which were used to purchase all kinds of stuff in the London area. It was very odd because I only ever used this card for Amazon purchases, indeed I shredded the card after registering it on Amazon!
It turned out I was one of many people who somehow had their card details stolen by someone connected with Amazon...
EDIT: I think it's a shame you can't use PayPal at Amazon.

If the problem was SDE, all their customers would all have the problem. The issue is much more likely caused by malware on your device or using the same password on multiple sites. It's a real pain, but it's important to use unique and long passwords on every site

There's also a service if you have a Google Gmail account to monitor if your details/password are on the dark web. I've done this for me and for a few relatives and friends. EVERYONE I've checked has had personal details and passwords available on the Dark Web. I'd suggest if you use Gmail to do this too. Here is a link to their help page

I made an SDE purchase Saturday. Just called my Visa credit card - everything looks clean. You guys had me worried. Anyone going to the Gilmour shows this week? I'm there tonight at least!

I have been, although of course it may be a complete coincidence. The fraud attempt happened 2 or 3 days after i made the order at SDE.
Also worth saying that I've used SDE before with no problems.

What if this isn't even a real release? The hackers probably caught on to the trend of hiding a Blu-Ray inside an expensive gazillion disc box set that sell like hot cakes once sold as standalone and hacked the SDE website to show Who's Next Blu-Ray.
