Does that include Dolby Digital AC3 as used on DVD-Video? Because a lot of 5.1 soundtracks are DVD-Video with either AC3 or DTS tracks.
I do believe AC3 has a 5.1 side and a 5.1 rear option. The whole side/rear business seems to only apply to 5.1, as no other channel config offers that kind of option, except for 3.0 and 4.0, which can either be LCR and Quad (the normal modes) or Dolby Surround (where there is a single rear channel that's bandwidth limited per the original spec).

I'm worried about my big staghorn ferns. One is completey wrapped in tarps, the biggest one is suspended from a frame I made from 4x4's...all I can do is throw a (big) tarp over it.
I used to move them into the shed every winter but they are way beyond lifting now.
We have a barrel cactus we call “Spike.” He’s in a pot (not an easy job!) and we wheel him into the garage before first frost. We have a heater under his pot, and we have grow lights on during the day. He has several potted friends as well. No perennials in the ground that can’t take 0F.

Technically, according to Dolby specifications, the surround channels in a 5.1 setup should be placed identically to the side surround channels in a 7.1 setup. So, 7.1 adds rear surrounds, not sides. Theoretically, in a perfectly treated room with optimally placed and equidistant speakers, those added rear channels shouldn't make much of a difference in terms of perceived soundfield.
I’ve noticed that my Marantz 7706 removes the rear speakers from its setup for 5.x.x, whether or not there’s side speakers in the room. And in my room, there are not. Yep, another compromise.

He’s not spoiled!

My cataract surgery about three years ago was one of the best things I’ve done for myself. 16F outside right now. Staying in as much as I can.
That’s awesome! My wife has worn glasses since grade school. She can already see well out of her left eye and the right eye will be done next month. I’m a stage four but not quite to where I can have the surgery. Glad she could get it.
