Hi everyone. I finally got my hands on a Sony SQD-1000 and as a novice on 1970s Quad, I am impressed with it. I am aware this was the very first SQ Decoder and have heard some stories about it. Still, I can finally play all of my Columbia SQ Records and experience all of what this device has to offer. I do admit that I was concerned about having to use two amplifiers but my Panasonic SA-504 receiver had hookups for it so worries diminished. I wished this had a instruction manual to hook everything up but I managed.

I did manage to try and play some regular stereo records to test my curiosity. The result were odd in some cases.

Has anyone had any experience with this unit? Please share your input and tips. I can use the advice and etc.

The SQD-1000 was one of the first SQ decoders and is a basic introduction.

Thanks for the input. From what I've read, SQ decoders got better in the later years. Still, this unit isn't as bad as people think. As I am writing this, I am playing the LP Antiphonal Music For Four Brass Choirs and it sounds great with the SQ Decoder. I did learn that some SQ Records had odd sounds in the rear channels. I assume it's the way it was remixed.
