Please post your thoughts and comments on the 5.1 BluRay disc that is included in the Deluxe Box Set edition of the Soundgarden album, Superunknown. (n):phones(y)

As of this posting, this disc is only available in the box set.

Horrible, horrible, horrible! The worst Blu Ray I have ever heard. NO dynamic range. RUINED by STEPEHEN MARCUSSEN during mastering. 5.1 tame but I wouldn't mind them to be honest. As soon as I read the credits, I knew it would be too loud but this is shocking.

5.1 mixes 6/10
mastering -10/10

Well
I love this BluRay and I give it a 9.I don't care who mastered it or who pissed against the wind on the wrong day.On heavy
rotation in my music room.Must be my modest setup and old ears.@:

I think a lot of potential buyers or people who pre-ordered and cancelled, like me, have for better or worse cancelled their orders based on trusted reviews from people who got them.
A real shame because the music is great but the cost of the set just to get the BD was kind of steep.
If the reviews had even been 50-50 I would have stuck with it.
I'm not someone who judges recordings by a single number but a DR of 6 is pathetic by any yard stick.

I think it's great that you are enjoying this album. I was looking for that "buzz" that a hot new release creates but there wasn't any. Your comments are the only ones I've seen to sing praises for Superunknown. I'm sure we were all hoping for something fantastic but instead it's another "what could have been."

You do not understand; the music is damn good but can't be enjoyed because the sound is atrocious. That is the point. If we accept any crap given to us it will continue to happen.

No I care just dont care for huge box sets with built in redundancy and cost.

was waiting for teh reviews to come in to maybe justify the cost, alas so far no justification to invest in a box just ebcause I want the Blu ray, looking on this as money banked for the next King Crimson release

So disappointed to hear about the over compression and tepid 5.1 mix (Not to mention the price). Soundgarden is turning into one of the most egregious offenders as far as cashing in on their "legacy". I was really looking forward to this release Unless this is released as a stand alone, I'll pass. Looks like I'll pick up the new edition of Quadrophenia instead.

I gave the 5.1 mix of this a casual listen on Sunday with an out-of-town house guest. I occasionally walked into the sweet spot to check the mix.

My first impressions are that the dynamics sound like my original CD version. Yes there is compression, but, in my opinion, no more than the original stereo cd has. I was quite relieved, especially after some of the previous comments.

The mix isn't exactly jaw-dropping, but it certainly isn't atrocious. I've heard alot of bad 5.1 mixes, and this definitely doesn't rank with the worst. My experience was enjoyable. I will listen again more intently when I get the opportunity.

This is the HDTracks 2-channel version. Not sure how it compares to the BD.

It was too late to cancel my order and I decided I will give it a try.
My copy arrived today.
Sometimes it isn't as bad as I heard about something.
I will report in the evening.

Uffff....
What to say.....
Yes, the mastering is bad. There are holes in the sound I never heard before...and I know the recording very well.
The 5.1 mix is boring.
The sound is cold.

Yes there are worse 5.1 mixes, but it is not good....and really not worth the price. :(

A 5!
