As I stated earlier, nothing has changed in regards to the audio codec being anything other than DTS 5.1 - I remain ever hopeful that this may be incomplete info and that it would indeed be DTS HD MA. The movie is currently undergoing a short theatrical run in the US starting May 5th. You can go to the D & E website to get the actual theaters and run time in your state here;

Here is the most complete and up to date info regarding the BD release that I could find;

For the first time in the new millennium, Apple Corps and Capitol Records will bring the psychedelic hit film Yellow Submarine back to home video, arriving on DVD and Blu-ray on May 29, 2012. (the date has been bumped to June 5)

According the Beatles official press release, the 1968 animated cult classic will receive a "4K digital resolution for the first time by Paul Rutan Jr. and his team of specialists at Triage Motion Picture Services and Eque Inc. Due to the delicate nature of the hand-drawn original artwork, no automated software was used in the digital clean-up of the film's restored photochemical elements. This was all done by hand, frame by frame."

Such an intensive, hands-on restoration should bring new life to the meticulous, and remarkably inventive, artwork seen in the film. Accompanying this release will be a brand new reissue of the film's influential soundtrack.

For those unaware, Yellow Submarine is an animated musical fantasy, based on the music of The Beatles, that takes audiences on a wild ride seasoned with some of the wackiest images ever committed to celluloid.
The Blu-ray release will be presented in the film's original 1.66:1 aspect ratio, mastered in 1080p and mixed in DTS 5.1 audio. Special features for this disc will include the following:

There is no indication that the BD will contain DTS HD MA - only DTS 5.1 has been mentioned - in all the official press releases - unless of course you are privy to some other information.

why go through all the painstaking process of restoring the video to 4k and then present the sound in lossy DTS?!? Its not like its just any old feature film, the soundtrack is pretty important in this one!

And on the original isolated track, wouldn't it have been nice to have full versions of those MC remixes? I understand WHY it wasn't done, but of course, on yet another stream the full versions could have been included, including a full-length "It's All Too Much," perhaps? That said, the original DVD should be appreciated for the work and quality that went into it, whatever may come in the future (in other words, keep your current DVD anyway).

I picked up the early DVD issue recently. I can't say I'm particularly bothered about the film: I wanted to hear the isolated 5.1 mix. Although some of it appears to be upmixed I've got to say the guy(s) who mixed this - can't remember off the top of my head - know(s) how to use reverb well. There's clearly some used, but it doesn't swamp the mix, so top marks for that. I had a problem with the disc just stopping after Nowhere Man on one player, but it's fine on another. There's a few scratches on the DVD (and it's clearly been skimmed too) so maybe that's the problem. I've been working my way through it just listening to the rear channels out of the front pair. Only A Northern Song is so active - yet it was relagated to mono/fake stereo on the original album! The speed issues are grating - is this largely to do with the 24fps film standard being sped up for the 25fps PAL standard? I've got a DVD of another film somewhere that is pitch corrected on the standard soundtrack, but not on the commentary track.

So I've been going through the various Beatles 5.1 mixes and comparing them lately.
People seem to really like the 5.1 mixes on this DVD and Blu-Ray, but the same cannot be said for "1+"
So I geared up the 5.1 mixes from both releases of "Eleanor Rigby", "All You Need Is Love", and "Hey Bulldog" to see if these 5.1 mixes from "Yellow Submarine" were much better, and honestly, they weren't.

I liked "All You Need Is Love" more on here because of the greater separation (especially with the keyboards discretely behind you) however it's a truncated version so that lessens the enjoyment for me. "Eleanor Rigby" was basically a wash (neither mix was better than the other) and "Hey Bulldog" was better on "1+"

I wonder if more people compared both mixes of these songs if they would feel the same way.

One needs to have Yellow Submarine, 1+, Love and Sgt Pepper 5.1 in order to get the best mixes of all the songs that show up in the movie. The marketing department does it again!!!

I gave it an 8 and I agree that the Yellow Submarine soundtrack mix isn't all that. I have the Blu-Ray, and I feel about it the same way I feel about Pepper. Decent sonics, spotty mix. And the content on this isn't as good as Pepper.

As a follow-up to last night's posts, I compared the three main "Sgt Pepper" tracks from "Yellow Submarine" to their mixes on the "Sgt Pepper" Blu-Ray and once again I didn't find the "Yellow Submarine" mixes to be any better.

On "Sgt Pepper...", the YS mix has the lead guitar very dominantly behind you, but it's also at a very decent level in the front too.
I like the cohesiveness of the mix on the "Sgt Pepper" Blu-Ray more.
Same goes for "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". The effects might swirl around the room a little more on the YS mix, but again, it's not a super discrete mix, and I prefer the punchier sound of the drums and bass together on the "Sgt Pepper" Blu-Ray.
Finally, for "When I'm 64", the only real discrete action on the YS mix are the bell chimes.
On the "Sgt Pepper" Blu-Ray, those are in the front, but the piano has been moved to the back, and that's a more satisfying arrangement for me.

Anyway, this is once again all to say that things haven't necessarily gotten worse from these earlier Beatles 5.1 mixes to now.

I was prepping "Love" for conversion to "gap compatible" .flac for the car, and decided to drag a few YS tracks to add to the folder. I had forgotten how GREAT, and I mean freaking GREAT the 5.1 mix of "Only A Northern Song" was. Holy crap it sounds amazing in the car. All of the out of tune instruments and little audio bits and pieces stand out perfectly in the 5.1 mix - not like a discrete Columbia Q8 mix, but as a modern 5.1 mix. Of all of the YS 5.1 mixes on this DVD, this track is the best IMHO. If you've forgotten it, go back and check it out. Play it loud.

Such a great tune. And not one of those Beatles tunes that's been played to death - by any stretch of the imagination.

The only bummer (and it's a HUGE bummer), is that the song stops dead, early, on this DVD. And that's F'd up. But the first 3 minutes? Awesome.

if you pro logic the cd of the yellow submarine songtrack, you'll be suprised at how close you can match the last part "it's only a northern song" to the discrete 5.1 mix.... and if you spec the whole cd well...mmmmm

and with all you need is love.. the anthology 5.1 mix is the same as the edited yellow submarine mix...so an edit to fix up the ending on anthology with the y sub movie works...just remember to remove a bit of hiss that is evident on the y sub movie subwoofer track
