This one is for Simon A....she sang songs that had simple lyrics but with such emotion and power...one of great vocalists of her time..

I think Gladys Knight must have taken about 10 hits of speed...she can't seem to stand still and that wall to wall smile looks chemical...hehe...

Fellow member and kind gentleman from Rhino (ForagingRhino) mentioned Bill Inglot as one of the talented people who played a key role in the making of the amazing Chicago Quadio for which we're all thankful. This prompted me to start raving about some of Mister Inglot's earlier wotk at Rhino. Others started chiming in. I choice to start a new thread about the release I was talking about so we may try to keep the other thread on track and the discussion focused on the Chicago Quadio set.

I'll copy the replies concerning this Dionne Warwick title, which is one of my favourite discs in my collection. I hope that's alright with everyone involved. :)

First, I'll backtrack a little bit to briefly talk about the first Dionne Warwick disc put together by Rhino.

Rhino with the help of Bill Inglot had previously released a 16 track Dionne compilation around 1986 using the original stereo master tapes, but the tapes were in such dire condition that they've subsequently chose to go back to the original pristine first generation session tapes and created completely new stereo mixes.

Bill Inglot needs a shout out as well for finding the Quad tapes for III & VIII. The Quad master for III was actually still at Sony in New York - it never got turned over to the band when they got their masters from Columbia.

This project was very much a group effort.

Bill Inglot's work with Rhino over the years has resulted in hundreds of amazing releases and I'm not surprised that his expertise was a key element in the making of this magnificent set. Please give him our sincere thanks. For anybody who has yet to hear his amazing Stereo remixes of Dionne Warwick's best songs, treat yourselves to this compilation which will make your system shine.

The Dionne Warwick Collection - Her All-Time Greatest Hits / Rhino Records ‎– R2 71100 (1989)

Thanks for the heads up on this, Simon. Just ordered a copy. LOVE Dionne. Saw her live twice back in the day.

Hey Simon I also want to thank you for that recommendation. I ordered a copy after realizing I like many of her songs and this is a double lp size collection of them.

My pleasure! I've never heard the LP version, but Rhino's vinyl in those days was excellent so I think you'll enjoy this one as well. Amazing song selection and sublime sonics.

I'm with you on that jefe1. I was able to procure a USED VG copy for under $7 delivered. Not bad for what also constitutes a chunk of the Burt Bacharach songbook, as well. Just wish someone (hint: RHINO) would release a single BD~A chock full of ALL her hits in HI RES Stereo. What a spectacularly soulful voice.

That CD is one of the best sounding and most affordable Dionne Warwick ever produced. Just wait until you've heard these tracks in 16/44. You won't feel the need for any other version of these songs, Blu-Ray, SACD or 8 track. This is a perfect example of new mixes and a mastering done right. Everything just opens up. I must warn whomever is a huge fan of the original mixes that these new mixes are not a note for note attempt to recreate the originals. This is a new vision of these classics songs. As I was unfamiliar with the music before acquiring this disc this was how I got to new these beautiful songs. Later, when I added the 1986 Anthology to my collection, I realized how much different some of the mixes were. Still, I prefer the remixes for how everything breathes and how the music is allowed to fill the room. Dionne is right there with you. I often use this disc whenever I do changes or adjustments to my set-up.

You can't go wrong with this disc. You get 24 tracks in glorious Stereo remixed from the original 1st generation session tapes. It can still be found for a few dollars so if you love female vocalists from the 60's, do give this one a try.

Have any of 'you guys' heard either of Dionne's 2 x Quad albums?
Since I'm starting to get CD-4 records in anticipation of getting a new 'table, toying with getting those two Dionne Quads.. unless they're crap albums, then I won't bother!

I'd love to hear those as well. :)

Oh hang on, Dionne's "Track Of The Cat" Quad never got released :(

I'll just get the "Then Came You" Quad (I can get it from a UK seller for a fiver, VG+ on Discogs.. hopefully that's not gonna result in a crackle fest seeing as its CD-4.. gulp! Unless all the CD-4 horror stories are hyped up and its not such a fussy load of bollocks after all.. in which case I'll be quite cross as I've put off getting into CD-4 for that main reason.. lot of my favourite Quads were on CD-4.. ah, well, fingers crossed by this time next year I'll be CD-4'd up!)

I find the three disc version of the Phil Collins interesting for the additional material but I found the song order of the two disc set more logical and better programmed. I guess it's a matter of whether you simply buy these to rip them and then create playlists or to play them as they are.

I also like the cover showing the 45 sleeves. Nice that Philip decided not to show us his old face yet again. :)

I don't need to take a look at you now Mate, I'll simply listen to your songs, thank you very much! ;)

Just thought I'd thank you while the topic of CD's was fresh in my mind...received the Dionne Warwick CD you suggested yesterday and it is an enjoyable listen...love those classic songs..Don't Make Me Over is probably my favorite song by Dionne(y)

I really glad you're enjoying it. :)

There are so many amazing sounding CDs that can still be acquired without breaking the the bank. I guess people believe that everybody already owns them so they don't mention them.

Do you like the remixes or you haven't really felt a major difference?
