India. It's a country. Cool.
With how many Indian movies I watch I probably should have created this thread sooner.

If only I could understand what singers are saying without having to use Google Translate for every song.

:geek:

What have y'all's experiences been with Indian music?

What's interesting about Bollywood music is that most tracks come from films...so a lot of these tracks already have a surround mix one way or another! It does depend on the film, but some films treat their musical tracks with the full discreteness they deserve. Of course, for a lot of these mixes, you can't hear them outside of the film, but that's a different problem.

Well, well, well, Mr. Afternoon. You certainly seem to have your finger on the pulse of the moment:

My explorations with Indian music largely come from film...it seems the music is mainly produced for films...and designed for playlistability...at least albums are not so common there.

With the films, the actors don't sing. They sort of "lipsync" to singers who are known and respected by their own right.

I can’t say I’ve followed Indian music that much. I have the “Concert for George” passage, and some Ravi Shankar, but my only expoaure to Bollywood was on “So You Think You Can Dance” several years ago.

Not that that should influence anyone else, but you asked.
