SQUIRREL WARS!!!

We have given up trying to keep the squirrels out of this bird feeder. We've tried all sorts of stuff like attaching metal studs to the house and then spraying them with WD40; putting capsaicin in the food...these squirrels must like TexMex...among other things.

They always adapt to a new arrangement very quickly. I noted early on that one was stretching out and reaching around the metal studs to get into the feeder. So I added a piece of PVC pipe to make the reach much longer. About an hour or two after making this modification, I see this particular squirrel climb up on the overhang and slide butt first down the PVC pipe straight into the feeder. Glad I could make life easier for you, Kraken Squirrel!

One fur ball (second pic) is so ballsy that banging on the window doesn't even scare it off anymore. It just poses for more photos before stretching it's body out into the feeder and indulging in some fine dining at the Surround household.

One eye partially open. Kind of spooky ...
"Sometimes, you might even notice that one of your kitty’s eyes is open and one is shut while they doze, a variation on the eyes half-open sleeping position.
This is called unihemispheric slow wave sleep. In this scenario, half of your cat’s brain is unconscious and resting while the other half is conscious and alert"

We had the grey introduced over here and they really aren't scared of humans, and have become a right pest. Also they out compete for food our native red squirrels, plus they carry a virus that has killed off the reds! However in areas where these have made a come back, grey squirrel numbers have dropped and red squirrel numbers have risen as the grey is heavier so can't get onto the finer branches that the reds can,

and they don't recognise them as a predator! So maybe we can ship a few pine martins over the pond to you!

That's awesome. What does he think??
As a child we had a Cairn terrier which on his first encounter got spooked by the snow, as he thought his paws had disappeared! He lifted all his legs out of the snow a few times to check his paws were still there, it was really funny to watch, as was him trying to catch snowballs.
