But there are many Atmos mixes where the rears are barely used. Why?
My guess is a lack of multitracks. Probably upmixed rears with nothing to write home about. Leave them low in volume, badge the item as Atmos and watch the sales roll in...
Listening to the various parts of the 5.1 mix via headphones to hear the differences and I'm not impressed, surrounds are just reduced reverby versions of the main tracks with some instrumentation missing.
I will still give the Atmos mix a go over the weekend on the main system but I'm not expecting greatness.

That stinks.
I'm still on the fence with this one. Not very familiar with the band aside from Grace, Too when they played it on SNL decades ago (great song btw) but would get it except for the lukewarm reviews. I've decided I don't need to get a surround album if the surround mix sucks, as that's what I used to do.
What would help the most is if someone could compare the mix to some other popular 5.1 (or Atmos mixes), like "it's similar to REM's Green," to give me a better sense of what to expect. If anyone can, that would be appreciated.
