Has anyone had any trouble playing this disc? Mine was fine until I tried recently (probably been a year or two since I last listened). It wouldn't play in my Oppo 103. Gave it a good cleaning and tried again. No luck. Tried my 103D and still no joy. Just to make sure, I spun it in my PS5 and- success! Then I tried my Sony 800 M2 and that worked as well. ???

It always played in my Oppos before. Strange that it won't now but will in the Sonys. And my Oppos have no problem playing other BDs.

There were bad discs on an earlier BD pressing, and it was a ink issue on the surface, and could be seen with close inspection. Is this a very early one and does it look 100% normal in label side?

Since this thread has been revived, I wonder if anyone ever determined if the content on the standalone Blu-ray is essentially identical to what is on the 5th disc in the above referenced Live In London set. Has anyone compared the two?

According to Discogs they are the same, although the matrix/runout codes are different.

I have the Live in London set and can generate md5sums or other that could be compared if someone wants to do the same with the standalone.

I had a copy which worked for about two years then just started showing as no disc present. So I bought the latest issue which sounds the same as I can tell, only difference is the label . I use a Sony 4k blu-ray player for all my discs.

It is an early pressing; got it as soon as they were available. The label side looks ok...

But I seem to remember something about rough edges on these- is that what you're referring to? Because there is some roughness in one spot:

But still don't understand why it won't play in the Oppos but will in the Sonys. Could it have anything to do with the fact the Sonys are newer???

Were you trying to play it on your Sony 4K player? Because mine still plays on my 800 M2.

I have the stand alone. It plays but it has a glitch on the Dolby TRUEHD version. I can't remember at what point but it's an annoying audio drop. The DTS-HD version plays fine. I have a Sony S570 and UBP-X800M2. The glitch happens on both players.

Ours is the exact same as your images there. In our Oppo Bdp 93 and Oppo 203 it plays perfectly. Yup... our Oppo bdp103..it says unknown disc and will not play on it. The actual disc front and back look brand new.

Now I do recall, it was the ones with the rough edges that were sometimes failing, I'm sorry to report. It was early on when it started to happen. The smooth-sided (normal) BR discs were not effected.

I just checked mine and it has clean smooth edges.

Well Sh!t. I just checked my blu-ray copy of Quadrophenia and it does NOT play. (Oppo BDP-103)
Now it's just a coaster. I played it about a year ago just fine. This stinks.
That's just not acceptable. We buy this media in good faith. The manufacturers and record companies need to improve quality control and replace or compensate for defective products! The products should be perfect, especially in these overpriced collector sets!

100% agreed

There's really no economical way the replace this surround album. The blu-rays on Discogs go for over $100 easily. Wonder how many of those are bad as well? And the Live/5.1 box set ain't cheap either.

I have re-read the pages of this thread, brings back memories, Quadrophenia might be the first Blu Ray MCH I purchased?
I have since purchased the big round can version in the plastic box.

I have noticed some discs not playing conversation.

Out of thousands of discs I have only two that would not play this being one of them. It would not play on day one, in fact I returned and replaced from Amazon, 4 I think and I gave up.
I went to a McIntosh gathering at a local audio shop and Charlie from McIntosh said, take some fine sandpaper and give the inside center hole a little light sanding. I immediately went home, sanded the 1/16th" thick center hole, and after all that stress it worked.
It has since happened to at least one other disc, but I know what to do now.

Do you remember what grit of sandpaper you used?

Did he give any explanation why that would work?
Fine 600 or higher. You want to see a bit of plastic dust. I don't think you can do too much, within reason. Just tear off a piece and wrap around tip of your finger. Try it first in the player, sometimes it takes a little extra.
Do you know why this works?
