The 1080 steelbook version, with identical 5.1 DTS-MA audio, is still available for less than half the price, for those who don't have gigantic 4K screens to ogle Ann-Margret & Tina Turner. 😉 🇬🇧

I watched (and listened) to this yesterday, the "Quintaphonic" mix. I can't say that I was blown away although it did have it's moments.

Has anyone compared the 5.1 to the 5.0 mix. I would assume that the "stereo" mix is QS encoded. Has anyone listened to it that way?

Going by memory I think that the recordings on the soundtrack album are slightly different versions from those of the actual movie. The soundtrack album seems to be more polished.

I think that album in regards to the stereo ,it would've been Dolby Surround.

Quintaphonic was a failed experiment, unfortunately, and Dolby ventured into that soundtrack , maybe a couple of years later, maybe only one.
I have a listing courtesy Dolby's Roger Dressler , with their movie soundtracks , circa latter seventies , and sure enough Tommy 75 is there.

Me thinks that would make the CD Dolby encoded , as per that time line.

I do remember watching the film in London at the time of release. At one point a phone rang, and i turned round, as you would!

Just bought a blu-ray from ebat with Quintaphonic sound on.

While we're on this date of St Patrick today, I'm listening to this fantastic performance, 30th anniversary of The Pogues .
Although just Dolby Digital 5.1 , you will be pleasantly surprised at how good the surround is for a Live recording.

The Pogues At The Olympia, Paris 30th anniversary...highly recommended by myself.
I bought the CD at a later date and popped my DVD inside , I just don't like those Amaray in largesse.

HAPPY ST, PATRICK 'S DAY ...Everyone!!♧😊

I must confess that I'm spoiled by the Quintaphonic 5.0 MIX.
I prefer this mix to the 5.1

I don't think I ever listened to the 5.1., much.

FWIW , John Moseley of QS and Quintaphonic fame only had 50 decoders for the theatre's.
Sheesh , NYC would more than likely need 5 !

Sad, a waste of time and effort to remix it using an inferior system!

Yes , just think about it.

Sansui QS , could have been the dominant matrix for film , had the Quintaphonic System successfully succeeded.

Although Dolby did experiment with QS.... ie first use of QS Matrix was on the film A Star Is Born with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson (1976) , released on Columbia/CBS Records .
Also of note is that QS was used for the mega hit (soundtrack) Star Wars (1977), although in a 3/1 configuration, the Dolby Stereo standard. Same with the above ..A Star Is Born.

I'm not certain which Movie soundtracks were using SQ* , there were a few. and before the Tate SQ and (Scheiber SQ) matrices advised them to cease.

I'm thinking Superman and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers were two. And another which may have used QS , Close Encounters Of The Third Kind.
