Weber Kleiber BD-A.jpg

Sadly to be released only in stereo without 5.1 or Dolby Atmos Surround Sound mixes... Scheduled to be released on Jun 12, 2020.

More details: Weber: Der Freischütz Blu-ray Release Date June 12, 2020
Presto Music already has the album for pre-order Weber: Der Freischütz coupled with the details listed below:
  • Remastered at Emil Berliner Studios in 24-bit / 192 kHz
  • Blu-ray Audio in DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0
  • CDs are produced from the new re-mastering
  • Clamshell capbox with 150pp booklet with libretto in German, English and French
Absolutely one of the greatest opera recordings of all time and for me, personally, the best recording of this work by all ways! According to the details provided by Wikipedia (presumably based on the chronicle can be found at the site of Emil Berliner Studios) this one was the first 8-track (8-channel) opera productions by EMB and followed the first quadraphonic recording (4-channel) made in Boston by mobile equipment with Michael Tilson Thomas and Boston Symphony Orchestra (most likely the recording of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring already released as such in surround by Pentatone): Emil Berliner Studios - Wikipedia.

Therefore, as far as I know, it would have been possible to make an alternative surround sound mixes for BD-A, maybe 4.0 and Dolby Atmos in 24-bit / 48 kHz. Hard to understand the decisions by Universal, this would have been such a good opportunity to impress consumers by the multidimensional nature of the original multi-channel recording...

Indeed: welcome to the forum, and thanks for your knowledgeable post. As you've probably seen, there's been some discussion here recently about other upcoming DG reissues--and some confusion & consternation over which ones will include 4.0 mixes and which ones won't (and why).
