Yes, it is hard to beat the Ambra disc's for liquid, immersive surround. The German and Dutch engineers always seem to be at the cutting edge of audio technology.

LOL. That is very very funny. Thanks for that. Disc's vapourise here in North Australia like my Bonnie Raitt DVD-A. No player I own now recognises any of the streams. I can see clearly now :yikes through the disc when put up to light. The 1's and 0's must of melted away. Anybody got a spare copy they want to sell/trade?.

Another vote of confidence in the Ambra mixes.. Ok, I really can't dismiss them anymore now!

Lots of great Euro surround mixes, absolutely! (y)

especially SACDs that didn't get released in the US/UK.. things like the Dana Winner's, Helmut Lotti, Born - At The End Of The Day, Laura Fygi, Guano Apes, Paul Van Dyk, Thomilla, Schiller, Matt Bianco, Caetano Veloso, Salif Keita, Till Bronner, Era: The Mass/V.Best Of, Kane x 2: SACD & DualDisc, Silje Neergaard.. off the top of my head.. Lots and Lotti Lot Lots! There's more I can't remember at the mo.

talking of Euro SACDs, has anybody here ever managed to get the Multichannel layer of the Fury In The Slaughterhouse SACD to play? I bought mine from new/sealed and it does diddly squat on the Pioneer (redbook only plays).. the best I can get out of it is the Stereo SACD layer (on my Cambridge Audio BDP, Oppo BDP-93 clone).

Your Bonnie Raitt did what..?!? :yikes it really doesn't play at all anymore!? Jenkies! :(

edit: hang onnnn.. my Bonnie Raitt DVD-A disc has a silk-screened label, how do you see through that!? :p

Waaaaait a minute, Silje Nergaard in surround? Which album is that, and which format?

meant to add last night (but I was a bit zonked!) the Dutch connection with SACD was of course down to Philips to a considerable extent, who invested heavily in their format as much as Sony if not more so, they assembled great people to really show off the format as best as they possibly could.. sadly it was a pretty short-lived thing and we all know what happened in the end.. but there's a good few years worth of Dutch (and Belgian/French/German etc) SACDs to track down, though most are now rare/very much sought after.

Very true. Philips was very much an equal partner in the development of SACD and CD, among others. And Philips had the first Multichannel SACD player, the SACD-1000, before Sony developed a comparable Multichannel SACD player.

My "bootleg" of DSOTM/PF/DVD/A
Still amazes, each time I listen
"Us & Them", is my go to track to show off the pleasures of 5.1
