I got 3 SHM-SACD'S today....Carpenters Singles 1969-73...Steely Dan Countdown To Ecstasy....Rod Stewart-Every Picture Tells A Story...I haven't listened to Rod The Mod for years...that should be fun...tomorrow should be a fun day:phones

yes. let me know what you think of the bass on the Rod Stewart.

I'm really the wrong guy to ask about bass...I have revised my system to de-emphasize the bass...it's a more neighbor friendly system..if you have ever lived in a condo or townhouse or apt you have to make that choice...I can squeeze out more volume that way too:)..to be candid it's a concession I don't miss much...since you have that Stewart disc I'm guessing you feel the bass is a little "thin"...which seems to be a common thread in some SACD's that aren't in surround...btw...I haven't played it yet

Prime Cuts: The Columbia Years 1987-1999 - Grover Washington Jr. (SACD).

Mid-bass is insane on almost all tracks.. and top end pretty bright and 'digital' sounding on some trks too.. I'd love to see waveforms of this disc! I really enjoyed about half the tracks, with one or two being really excellent, despite the doof doof doof sound!

Bat Out Of Hell - Meat Loaf (Stereo SACD).

Ugh.. awful! I just compared it to the old "Now Made In The USA" CD, which sounded better.. but I've now gone onto the surround SACD now.. and while it may be an "inauthentic" remix it sounds the best of these 3 by a mile, absolutely wipes the floor with the other two discs, sonically speaking!!

Thanks...that's what I was afraid of...nothing like Winelight...which I love...

no probs :) nothing like Winelight, no.. a few great compositions, some great musicianship, a few tracks have solid production and especially nice playing from Mr.Washington Jnr himself but its no Winelight (I'm taking that DVDA to the grave with me! it's still one of the best things I've ever heard!).

I like playing the surround mix in stereo.

Escape - Journey (Single Layer SACD).

Sounds much better to me than its reputation suggests.. in fact, I'd stick my neck out and say it has a lot going for it.. crankable, nice full bass and mids (only certain drums a bit congested but I feel that's inherent in the mix, it needs a 5.1 remix!).. the top end is smooth, cymbal crashes and those unmistakeable vocals sound excellent & full of detail without being fatiguing on the ears.. some of the tracks even pan out pretty well in PLII Music as a nice bonus for us Quaddies! If you like these guys it's a must have, I reckon.
