I have been trying to absorb all the information on the bonus tracks in this box. It wasn't totally clear which bonus tracks on the CDs are mixed into Atmos - they don't always have the same description, are sometimes not the same length and of course are not in the same order. Once I had ripped the stereo blu-ray tracks it was fairly easy to A-B them against the CD tracks. So I thought I might as well share the list - it shows you which CD tracks you can ignore because they are duplicates of the bluray.

1. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 09 - The Seeker (Unedited Version). This has 7s of intro chat not on the Atmos.
2. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 02 - Here For More (Original Single Mix)
3. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 08 - Now I'm A Farmer (Unedited Remix)
4. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 05 - I Don't Know Myself (Unedited Remix)
5. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 10 - Water (IBC Studios Version)
6. Who's Next 05: Olympic Studios, London Sessions 1970-1972 track 05 - Naked Eye (Remake Version)
7. Who's Next 05: Olympic Studios, London Sessions 1970-1972 track 01 - Pure And Easy
8. Who's Next 05: Olympic Studios, London Sessions 1970-1972 track 04 - Too Much Of Anything
9. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 12 - Let's See Action (Original Single Mix)
10. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 13 - When I Was A Boy (Original Single Mix)
11. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 14 - Join Together (Original Single Mix). Shorter - Atmos is unedited.
12. Who's Next 05: Olympic Studios, London Sessions 1970-1972 track 15 - Put The Money Down (Remix With Original Vocal)
13. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 15 - Relay (Original Single Mix). Shorter - Atmos is unedited.
14. Who's Next 06: Singles And Sessions track 17 - Long Live Rock (Original Olympic Mix)

I think the content of this set is fantastic, and the sonics pretty good. The Atmos mixes have me a bit confused, and while I really like them, I feel as though they have lost a little bit of the dynamic range compared to the stereo versions. Doesn't seem like it should be that way (and I'm listening to this loud), but that's my impression.

Example of this is Daltrey's primal scream in Won't Get Fooled Again. Yeah, it's there and it sounds great, but to me Atmos just doesn't have the same dynamic impact as the stereo version.
Don't let that put you off at all. This is very, very good release sonically, and the amount of content is staggering.

Just received my copy and am finishing listening as I write this. I couldn't be happier with the clarity, mix and overall quality of this amazing material. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that this masterpiece would ever be available in a surround audio format. And the (apparently) heroic efforts of Steven Wilson to get the best-quality MCH mixes even for tracks for which the masters have been lost is worth a knighthood, at least. And all of the bonus tracks in surround as well - that's truly amazing! I voted "10". Obviously!

I voted a 5. Love SW's work but this has been the disappointment of 2023 for me. It (the Atmos mix) just sounds wrong. The 5.1 mix is far superior (IMO).
So despite the fact that the 5.1 mix is included as an alternative ("far superior"), this gets awarded a 5? Clueless.

The standalone HFPA Blu-ray disc is a different packaging from this thread's starter (which is the giant deluxe box, much more expensive)

Maybe the HFPA Blu-ray release it should get its own thread, to lessen confustion?

Anyway it's already sold out at SDE. Bluray.com seems to says that it's 'exclusive to SDE until Nov 1 2025'

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Who-Whos-Next-Blu-ray/376843/

I can stream the Atmos though.

OK then everything from jaybird's post today on can be deleted?

It would probably be amusing/instructive to do a separate poll for the HFPA thread. Watch people give different ratings to the audio of each.

There is already a separate discussion thread for the SDE standalone release: https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/threads/the-who-who’s-next-sde-series-no-30-january-17th-2025.36696/page-12#post-829537

It wouldn't make sense to create a second poll thread as the content of both Blu-Ray discs is the same (original stereo + remixed stereo/5.1/Atmos of main album & bonus tracks).
oh! i thought the instrumentals were unique to the standalone SDE BD?

edit: not that i'd consider that'd make it worthy of a separate QQ Poll..! 😅🤣
