Does anyone else think that Keith Moon and John Entwhistle are kind of buried in this mix? It's a disappointing output for me by Mr. Wilson. I can't think of another remix he's done that i didn't feel did complete justice to the source material.

9 from me.

Content 10 - one of the great rock albums ever
Mix 8
Packaging 10 - I have the box set and it is formidable.

Which mix? Stereo? 5.1? ATMOS?

I think in general when you compare a 2 channel mix, to one with multiple channels, you lose a little power and heft with the surround formats because the musical elements tend are diffused across multiple channels. With stereo, the sound is more focused.

Atmos (as a 7.1 FLAC) and 5.1 both.

I forgot to mention how much I appreciate the extras in this package. There are a couple of clunkers in there but by and large they are great songs that I appreciate having in a surround mix (Relay, Seeker, et al).

Is it just me, or does the volume need to be pumped up a little higher than usual to get the same level of loudness found on other albums? The Atmos is great! I gave it a 9, as it's not as amazing as other Atmos discs I've heard (like most of SW's Atmos albums).

Join Together gave me goosebumps.

Yes. I also find that many Atmos mixes, need to be cranked to really shine. I’m not complaining because this characteristic is typical of recordings that aren’t overly compressed.

And we all know how many recordings have been ruined by excessive compression making them painful to listen to when we crank up the volume.

I upgraded my system to 5.0.2. Apartment dweller. Since I have done that, I should probably go back and change some of my scores. Those .2’s make an incredible difference. After my first listen I was a bit disappointed. Some spots that I was used to hearing come roaring in, where quieter, and took me a couple of listens to get comfortable with that. Bass and clarity way better than my Japanese SACD including detail. Nice listen, strong 8.

Yes. And i expected better sonics on the drums. I thought i read there were multitrack limitations with the drums.

Agreed. If you go from playing Atmos to the corresponding dedecated 5.1 its apparent. Could some of that be system dependent?

I’ve found that I always have to pump up the volume on Wilson mixes.
