I just picked up 2L's Utopias by Kjell Tore Innervik (noted a few posts up). This is sparse, challenging percussion work with crazy dynamic range and remarkable overall engineering. Iannis Xenakis's Psappha is reimagined and recorded twice here with the second version placing the listener in the center of the action on that track. There are both Atmos and Auro 3-D tracks. If you like this sort of stuff, highly recommended.

Composer and Pianist Douwe Eisenga is best known for his music that has been performed by others. Now he teams up with the TRPTK label to bring you For Mattia, an album of 9 tracks where he performs as a solo artist.

For Mattia is available in Stereo and Multichannel DSD 256, DSD 128, DSD 64, and DXD at the NativeDSD Music store. It is a DSD Exclusive, Not Available on SACD release. The DSD tracks are exclusively available at Native DSD.

TRPTK brings us the story of this new DSD release: "Pianist and composer Douwe Eisenga writes sparkling music for sparkling minds, a hypnotic mix of rhythm and compelling lyricism. The melodies carve into the soul of the listener. After having made ten albums as a composer, For Mattia is the very first album on which he himself plays his music.

He composed, others performed his work. That is how it went for 30 years. “I used to play in pop bands. But when I started studying composition at the conservatory in Groningen, I ended up in a different world. There were dozens of people there who played much better than me. It seemed better for everyone that I stick to compositions. I kept that idea up for a long time.”

Now he has released this album with nine recent piano pieces, including For Mattia, in that characteristic, compelling Eisenga style that leaves virtually no one untouched. “But it is and remains important to keep a certain distance as a composer. The music does not dictate emotion but has a certain openness. As a listener, you can go into it yourself and make your own story out of it. That makes it more universal.”

Eisenga has “giant pride” now that For Mattia has been released. It’s actually my first album. This feels like a debut. That’s kind of crazy, at age 57. I hope it will end up with many people, not so much because of the sale, but because it is so nice to share the music. In addition to writing it, I get the most satisfaction when it lands well. The essence of a musician is that you want to be heard.”

How are all you prediction people or should I say insiders doing? Seems like a very dull year so far for the pop/rock fan. None of the wants have come forward yet. The current list on page 1 is growing ( I have purchased 12 so far on the list) but seems like a light year. Hootie And The Blowfish the only really big surprise far.

I just listened to Stick Men and Katatonia on Tidal at work. I could see myself buying Stick Men, but Katatonia, I call it Symphonic Metal, just doesn't grab me completely. Both are definitely fringe for me. Trying not to buy everything this year. I bet they would both sound great in surround at home, that I know.
