Cassettes traveling @ 1 7/8 ips and now THIS! 240 lines of resolution with HiFi in Dolby Surround ..... wonder how many VHS players are actually still functioning??????
Mine still works. I also have a V2000, but that one needs refurbishing, last time I tried to plug it it went habemus papam...
But I'm with you here, I keep that (and a Laserdisc player) only for rare media, and sometimes for nostalgia (I still have my full VHS collection I taped some 40+ years ago that started my movie collecting hobby as a kid). I don't get that revival either, nor did I ever the vinyl one. Nostalgia I get it, placing the vinyl on the turntable, and the sleeves, the fun of it, etc.... but don't tell me it sounds better! Why? Because Nicolas Cage said so in a movie a while back? (I have a theory that this is what kickstarted the vinyl revival, way back then in 1996. Who knows? It seems to fit the period though.
It's bad enough that 480p DVDs are still being mass produced and gulped up by people who haven't even transitioned to blu~ray much less 4K...and they cost as much as both if you check Deep Discount's current pricing.
Yep, people are cheap. They value quantity over quality. Like that old wartime good news/bad news joke: "Today we have crap to eat, but there will be plenty for everyone!". I have a friend who not long ago was even watching Blu-Ray movies on a CRT. Incidentally, he also prefers vinyl records, because "it sounds better, ya know!".

I know a video on YouTube (I think it was) in which someone demonstrates that "analogue > digital = rubbish" by chaining full analogue tone generating equipment hooked up to an oscilloscope (also analogue) then inserting an ADC-DAC chain in it and comparing the signals. They come out exactly the same, nothing gained, nothing lost. Unfortunately, my friend is not technically minded and I suspect he wouldn't get the point (I might try one day anyway though, as he's an intelligent, and more important, very honest bloke), so as long as he doesn't shrink his wallet to oblivion, I leave him with his placebo dreams.
