Of course, the Steve Miller Band disc WAS released as a 5.1 disc BY CAPITOL!! Not DTS Entertainment. It's a totally different deal.

I looked at Tim's ad, but did not post a link because he did not. However, the only place 5.1 is mentioned in Tims ad is in the prefab crap that eBay puts in. All sellers should avoid using these descriptions like the plague.

After reading this thread now I'm curious. Were these titles ever remixed and released in 5.1 with actual information coming out of the center channel? Also, I was aware of the reissue of the Band on the Run to include the missing notes, but was that new mix in 5.1 vs 4.0? I've been around quad since it's invention too, but there has been so much repackaging of this material that I certainly can't keep track of how each version varies from the previous version. I didn't see your actual listings, but I looked at the link Jon provided for Mymusicfix. If the Steve Miller FLAE disc that guy is selling is 4.0 rather than 5.1 I would be confused from his listing. It states, "This is a DTS CD, which features DTS 5.1 Surround Sound technology and is playable on a DTS-capable 5.1 Surround Sound system." Nowhere does it actually say it's a 5.1 mix, but the way it's worded you could certainly easily come to that conclusion if you didn't know any better. So, I can see how people could get confused by the whole "5.1 Surround Sound technology" description. But asking for a discounted price because of it is idiotic. He's either satisfied or unsatisfied with the purchase. Your offer to return it and even refund the shipping seems very fair.

the old quad stuff is 4.0,but on some titles they added a mono centre (of the front left and right) speaker 15 db down in level on the other speakers level ,and a subwoofer, so dts could claim 5.1 on the cover.....band on the run is the same quad mix, (3 notes fixed or not fixed)....can't remember if they added a fake centre and sub but on venus and mars they did....anyway
that stuff should be listened to without the centre on.

I enter the upc or some description and see what comes up. On DVDs or CDs it's about 75% correct/complete. Other times I have to put my own pictures and descriptions up. Thinking there was only ever one DTS version of these discs, but multiple re-packaging, I didn't see any problem with using it.

You just never know what kind of people are bidding out there. I asked that since I don't have access to both versions, could he point me to somewhere this is documented but he couldn't be bothered with that.

Somebody that passionate and potentially knowledgable would be a good candidate for QQ membership but that prickish attitude costs too many points.

I forgot to mention that the FLAE 5.1 disc is of course Dolby Digital, not DTS, so there really should be no confusion what so ever. This is quite maddening! :(
