Seeing those R.E.M. Simpsons figures, I can't resist. I should, though, since I find it's best to sequester my many interests. Below, find Exhibits A-D why I don't have budget for box sets like Who's Next...
As I'm sure is true for many here, COVID lockdown affected my interests and hobbies. During that period I bought those same figures and one set of the Beatles McFarlane figures (same photo). I also found Lego therapeutic. My wallet disagrees.
That new hobby resulted in a pretty faithful re-creation of the Beatles' rooftop concert as seen in Get Back and Let It Be. I'm not up for posting the whole thing online but here is a closeup of the minifigs I managed to cobble together after a *lot* of research in the Lego equivalents of QQ and SH.tv. Still not happy about John and George's torsos but Paul is 100% and Ringo may be as well. I also still have the official Yellow Submarine set in its box (waiting for "the right time") but I've hung the Lego Beatles White Album portraits.
Then, a year ago, I put together a hodgepodge of Dylan's 90s band that would've toured for Time Out of Mind and "Love & Theft" (Atmos and 5.1, respectively). The bassist (Tony Garnier) and guitarist/multi-instrumentlist (Larry Campbell) are pretty accurate but I couldn't get a flesh face for either, just the yellow. Eventually I found a perfect one for Bob himself. The stage itself is not my design. Someone made a mini version of the offical Jazz Quartet set so I used their instructions and part list. Hence the grand piano. Back in the 90's, Dylan didn't play piano. These days he's on a grand (or baby grand) so some artistic license.
A couple other surround music-related Lego projects I'm working on digitally: the cover for Billie Eilish's "Everything I Wanted" (which has an excellent Atmos mix), and potentially something Leonard Cohen (who has multiple video concert releases in 5.1).
Finally, most recently and least creatively, when I moved to Chicago I wanted to give myself a housewarming gift I normally wouldn't. I took the plunge on (the discounted) George Harrison's uber All Things Must Pass. It arrived the day after I did. I didn't open a single moving box until I could open that crate and place George where you see him now. The other two gnomes are in adjacent windows.
Okay. That's embarrassing.
Think I'll go make dinner. As you can guess, I eat a fairly strict ramen noodle diet these days.
