So, what do I do? I find a MINT copy of She's A Lady from 1971 on Discogs and order it. That's what....should bring back memories!

...nice order! And to think this all started with a new Marie Osmond song:banana:

Like the clip of Rose Marie, priceless!

Ryan's post in another thread about playing music for his father make me think....it really is amazing. My family has always loved music as well....more so my dad and myself for sure. My older brothers did...sort of, but not with the passion that me and pappy have. So, here is the ironic part. When I was a very impressionable young boy...with no internet and only an AM radio...what influenced me?

First of the Big AM 89 WLS out of Chicago. They played all the rock and roll that I could only dream about. Here's the twist. My brothers were pretty much nerds...they didn't like rock. They liked some country...or things like John Denver or some of the doo-wop stuff from the 50's. Hey that's cool...but guess what? My dad's record collection is what I went to when I wanted to listen to music...plus the fact that he gave me free access to all his albums and his console Zenith stereo which was back by my bedroom.

Tom Jones
The Ventures
Elvis Presley
Glen Campbell
Percy Faith
Burt Bachrach (sp)
Fifth Dimension
Johnny Mathis
Andy Williams
Aretha Franklin
Johnny Cash
Barry White
The Temptations
Ike & Tina Turner
Nat Cole
Cole Porter

On and on..these are the albums that I listened to over and over...scribbling down what I thought were the lyrics on a notebook I kept underneath the turntable. :)

I got 2 discs today...I still needed my hit song from Dusty Springfield...so I grabbed a CD...and the Dylan SACD arrived

I am reading William Shatners biography - Up till Now - and he writes about when he sang/spoke Elton John's "Rocket Man" on a show in the 70's:

I have not seen this before - I think it is great - it just made my day to see this!!

And he is introduced by Bearnie Taupin - that is something special :)

It is so bad/weird that it is good, haha

Today I received the Texas Hurricane Box Set...6 SACD's with Stevie Ray Vaughan..I did get a little chuckle...as some of you know acoustic sounds listed the empty box for sale...IIRC it was close to $100...for just the box...and it is a decent box...but c'mon...it's not THAT nice...back to my purchase...here are some pictures...sorry for the quality...dark overcast day yields poor results...

Been awhile since I got me some new music. These two arrived today...

A nice set! Let me know what you think of the "Sweet Home Alabama" live mix. I still haven't bought the Blu-Ray yet, just cause I'm not sure how interested I am in that one exclusive track. It's not one of my favorite songs at all, plus the live mix aspect of it might not really do anything for me either, but I'm always interested in hearing opinions about it. :)

For sure Ryan. I'll post in the DVD-A poll thread after I have a few listens. Spinning Big Phat Band now, it sounds fantastic! This was like $10 CDN including shipping, what a steal!

Hey Ryan, its not Mr. Red, its Mr. Blue... ..I only played the Southern Surroundings HFPA once so far but it struck me as a great live mix, not the usual ambience affair, instrumentation back there and generally surprisingly more engaging than I was expecting.. and a solid performance too.

Well - still down here in central Argentina. Man, a life without the music you love is a very dark place. LOL! I miss my music! All I hear is spanish love songs......UGH. Rock/Roll is pretty much missing in action in this part of the world...amazing how a music genre so important to not only US history...but many other countries is absolutely non existent here. OK, naive, I know. Still hard to believe.

So - cannot wait to get back on US turf......I leave Monday night out of Buenos Aires. It can't get here soon enough. :violin

I will start of by saying.... LMFAO!

All I have time to do is sleep a few hours and back to work. This trip is no vacation my good man....but yeah, I know some big acts come to the big city here. What I mean is, the radio stations ALL play spanish love songs....no chance you will hear any good rock on the radio. Wears me down....

I lived in Colombia for two years, yes in South America the music is very monolithic, its either Spanish torch songs or Salsa or Latin Rap(reggaeton). Its funny, that's what they consider to be all the genres of music. Kinda like the redneck waitress in Texas who proudly states:

"We play all kinds of music here... Country AND Western!"

What brought you down there?

My job - I'm a plant breeder and we use Latin America as contra season for breeding. Soooo - it's end of March here and it's harvest time.
