Ok, so this is pretty interesting if any of you are big Beatles fans (and especially big Macca fans):

Paul McCartney is planning to release a new compilation on June 10 called "Pure McCartney".
This will be the first comprehensive Macca collection covering his entire career. ("Wingspan" was basically up until around 1984.)
There will be two CD editions, a 2-disc edition and a 4-disc edition.
The 4-disc edition was teased with a short video:

Yikes! That's a mega-collection! Quite a few of my favorite deep cuts on there like "Back Seat of My Car", "Arrow Through Me", "Beautiful Night", "Souvenir" and "Baby's Request." If there was a 5.1 edition of this I'd be in heaven! :music

One Macca track that I really love always gets overlooked on his compilations: "Girls' School." It was the b-side of "Mull of Kintyre" (which was Paul's biggest hit in the UK) but for some reason U.S. radio stations chose to play "Girls' School" instead of "Kintyre." Unfortunately "Girls' School" seems to have been forgotten over the years. Too bad, it's a really great rocker.

EDIT:

Hmmmmm...... Also just noticed that Flowers in the Dirt and Driving Rain are both completely ignored. Too bad, lots of great stuff on those two......

Yes! I love all those deep cuts you mention, but especially "Arrow Through Me". It's so nice that it will finally be included on a McCartney compilation as it's a very overlooked song from him.
As for the absence of tracks from "Flowers in the Dirt" and "Driving Rain", I'm particularly puzzled why "Flowers" was overlooked, especially since it's supposed to be the subject of his next Archive Collection box set this year. There's some AMAZING songs on there like "My Brave Face", "This One", "Figure Of Eight", "Put It There", and so many more!
Concerning "Driving Rain", I think it's pretty obvious he probably doesn't look as fondly on that album now given what happened to him and Heather Mills in the following years, but there could be more to it than that. All I can say is why can't George Harrison's estate get on with it and create a PROPER retrospective collection for him?! The last one ("Let It Roll") was alright, but it missed several key solo songs in favor of including live versions of some of his Beatles songs, a total diss IMHO! ;)

The official announcement on Paul McCartney's website: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/67-tracks-of-pure-mccartney

'Pure McCartney', a new compilation of his solo, Wings and Fireman work, celebrates that fact, showcasing 67 highlights from one of the most-revered catalogues in music - from 'McCartney' in 1970, his debut solo album, right through to 'Hope For The Future', his 2014 track taken from 'Destiny', the most-anticipated video game of the last decade. Not only is 'Pure McCartney’ a monumental mixtape of some of popular music's most memorable moments from 1970 to the present day, it also features curios for the superfans and some of Paul's personal favourites — all handpicked by the man himself..

"Me and my team came up with the idea of putting together a collection of my recordings with nothing else in mind other than having something fun to listen to," Paul says of this project.

"Maybe it's to be enjoyed on a long car journey or an evening at home or at a party with friends? So we got our heads together and came up with these diverse playlists from various periods of my long and winding career.”

The word 'career' is a bit misleading because to me it has been more like a musical adventure than a proper job," says Paul, reflecting on the 'Pure McCartney' tracklisting. "It pleases me, and often amazes me, that I've been involved in the writing and recording of so many songs, each of them so different from the others."

:)

Clint, you're probably right. And what would it take to author a BD~A with the EXISTING 96/24 (or whatever) transfers prepared for downloads?

At this late stage of the game RBCDs just don't cut it for me.

Actually I'm looking more and more in that direction...the quality one's with good DR numbers instead of buying the so called "hi rez" disc that is overly compressed...I can give up surround for better sounding discs...CD's can sound better than or equal to SACD's if the mastering is done well...your garden variety CD usually doesn't get that treatment...but a lot of the earlier DCC discs before Marshall formed Audio Fidelity...and then AF.... and MoFi gold discs were the "hi rez" of their time...prior to DVD-A and SACD...just today I opted for an older MoFi title INSTEAD of the SACD version....due to the compressed overprocessed sound on the SACD ..a lot of people aren't bothered by compressed music...but I can't stand it and am very sensitive to it...

I've said this before...people get too obsessed with the numbers..24/96 isn't a magic cure for poorly mastered or over processed music..it's not rocket science...just listen to the music and leave the waveforms and charts at home..
