Wow. Never knew about the Spanish Joe Jackson songs before. I just found "Cancer" on YouTube. Interesting. I've always thought about doing an episode of my radio show where I play cuts like this where English speaking artists re-recorded their songs in another language. Things like The Beatles' "Komm, gib mir deine Hand" and Peter Gabriel's "Schock den Affen".

1975 Captain & Tennille - Por Amor Viviremos (Love Will Keep Us Together)

I was living in Tucson at the time. The Spanish version was played on Top 40 radio as much as the English was.

According to Wikipedia: While "Love Will Keep Us Together" was topping the charts in the summer of 1975, Captain & Tennille released a Spanish version of the song, "Por Amor Viviremos". "Por Amor Viviremos" rose to number 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving Captain & Tennille a rare feat of the identical song, in different languages and released as separate singles (rather than the A-side and B-side of one single), appearing simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100.

Opeth's last album was released simultaneously in English and their native language (viking?).

The native language version 'sounds' better, more of an audible poetry but the English version is by no means poorly written, if anything they only earned more respect from me as a fan for being able to pull it off.

Peter Gabriel's "Schock den Affen".

PG redid his entire third and fourth albums in German. The third album merely replaces his English lead vocals with German ones for every song except "Biko", which is a very different version (subsequently issued in English on at least two EPs).

The German version of the fourth album has many more changes, even to song order (if I'm not misremembering).

At least one of the EPs with the alternate version of "Biko" also includes an acoustic re-recording of "Here Comes the Flood" with German lyrics.

A friend of mine was studying in Germany when the third album was big and managed to catch a PG show. He said Gabriel did some of the songs in German, which caused the audience to shout out "English! English!"
