I'm looking for more music related fiction. I just finished Children of the Neon Bamboo (world class writing in a book largely music oriented), and I'm looking for more of that action. Can someone recommend me something that takes you to a music scene of the past and describes it well?

One of the more famous examples is Geoff Dyer's But Beautiful. I'm also a fan of Scottish poet Jackie Kay's novel Trumpet, inspired by the life of jazz musician Billy Tipton.
