As a subscriber to your channel, YT served me up your video first thing this morning so I've already seen it - good stuff. But I thought about your question and the snappiest I could come up with was:

"In the Sixties, The Beatles always wanted to make their releases value for money, as evidenced by the fact that they often released non-LP singles - Paperback Writer and Rain in the case of Revolver. Admittedly Capitol in the US tried very hard to ignore this intention and squeeze as much cash from the product as possible and McCartney's deluxe boxsets have not included surround and are very expensive, but George and John are doing pretty good on the value for money front when they release box sets and they do include surround mixes. There's also still a small hope that Ringo will release the quad mixes of Goodnight Vienna and Ringo in some hi res format. But, in terms of disrespecting the Beatles' original wishes, this does seem like a bad move. This is especially significant when you remember that these days it is heavily emphasised that all four 'members' - Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia - have to be satisfied that they are doing what is right for their part of the legacy."

However, writing all this did make me think that maybe you should have gone full Brit and said, "Sorry, but I'm really quite annoyed about this."

[Edit: I've just realised that, in case it's not obvious, I ought to mention that I'm a Brit!]

Right now on SiriusXM's Beatles channel they're playing an interview with David Fricke and Giles Martin then they'll have a few premieres of tracks from the box.

I don't use SiriusXM however I'd like to know if there was any discussion of why Apple isn't including a Blu-Ray with their upcoming deluxe edition of Revolver.

Bearing in mind how bad Goats Head Soup Atmos sounds in 5.1 I am nervous about what Revolver might sound like - if my Oppo will even play it.
I've used makemkv and audiomuxer to create 7.1 flac files from some of the recent Beatles Blu-rays only to find that said Oppo won't play them through the front USB port. It will, however, play the mkv files as video, and the surround mix can be selected and played.

What format is the Atmos download likely to be in? Would it be possible to convert it to mkv, or open it in Audacity and reduce it to 5.1?

Yep... The OPPO UDP-20x players don't support 7.1 channel lossless Flac (or lossy LC or HE-AAC), they only support 5.1 channel, via USB or network connected HDD.

Strangely the OPPO BDP-10x players can support the affore mentioned...

I have both. I'll have to make space somehow. The 105 is sat on its tod just for ripping SACDs.

They play fine through the HDMI input...

At first I was furious...my favorite Beatles Album of all time, making it my favorite album of all time...without Atmos included in the boxed set. Ridiculous. Very cleverly Atmos is mentioned here and there without much clarification without reading all the little fine print. The only reason I spent an absurd amount of money of AR, SPLHCB and White was for the surround mixes.

However...

The "included" Atmos mix is via digital stream. If I read everything correctly the Atmos digital is included in the 2 disc set. At $33, I don't have to purchase the rest of the garbage at $133. I much more prefer a hard copy but to save that amount of money no issue.

If I'm wrong and the 2 disc set doesn't include Atmos, this is the first time in my life I will not have purchased a major Beatles release.

Atmos is being used as a buzz word by the marketing teams. I streamed the Atmos version of Taxman on my setup rendered in 5.1. It was very dissappointing almost nothing coming out the rear speakers. If the rest of the album in Atmos cannot render a 5.1 playback then again we ask why not a bluray with high res stereo and 5.1. There must be many many more 5.1 systems then Atmos out there.
