OK, you know me, always trying to push and further my education of music. If someone, uneducated, like me, wanted to buy and use a scope as you mention above, what would it take? Links are helpful.

I was hoping for a surround experience akin to Paul's DTS surround mixes of Band.... and Venus.... Lofty expectations I know! Ya I know they were Q-8.

I think this mix is actually better than either of those. Band is good in places, thought the intro call and response bit with the guitar and keys is literally stereo, it goes from left center to right center. "Let Me Roll It" is just really heavy echo/delay in the rears. "Bluebird" is barely discrete until the sax solo and the end when an extra harmony pops up in the rears. "Helen Wheels" is not discrete at all, the rears are actually silent except for an occasional guitar bit after the chorus that's also in the front. Venus is no great shakes surround-wise either, the opening track is a fun exercise in vocal panning, but then "Rock Show" hits and it's not discrete and muddy as hell.

I'll take TWA over those any day of the week, the surround mix has really made me appreciate tracks that weren't previously favorites, like "Piggies", "Savoy Truffle", and "Happiness Is A Warm Gun". It's not the best or most discrete 5.1 mix ever- some tracks like "Julia", "I'm So Tired", and (unfortunately) "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" really don't have much in the rears. Overall, there are more good mixes than bad and I think it's a really great release. I stand by my "9" vote.

You are of course entitled to your opinion though, no one here wants to blast you. Super jealous of that scope by the way, been looking for one for years and they never seem to drop below $500.

Wow, the fidelity is amazing.

It just occurred to me how lucky we all are, meaning that when this album came out 50 years ago no one outside of the studio ever heard this album like this in all it's pure fidelity and to top it off in surround.

The people back then probably thought to themselves, wow we are so lucky to live in a time when the beatles are playing live not even realizing that they were not even hearing the true fidelity or what it could sound like in surround (you don't miss what doesn't exist).

I'm saying that even the guys with the very best mono or stereo systems back then were not hearing this album as good as it is today with this surround release.

I'm saying I think we are actually luckier than them. ;):p

The problem I've found with many ambient mixes is that the levels of the surrounds are plain just too low; and this perception is exacerbated when the track is preceded by a one that has substantial content in the surrounds. The three you mentioned are poster children for this effect, especially While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I'm not shy about juicing up the surrounds. After all, my handle is: AR (crank up the) Surround(s). ;)

Listening again to this 5.1 disc again. It is perfect, I love it, the best of 2018, I voted 10, anything else? We always talk so much about what is wrong with surround titles, if they where all like this, what would we talk about.
The 5.1 crew, NAILED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's nice to see someone just enjoy a surround title without all the charts and graphs and just let yourself go and enjoy the music...I'm just glad I don't have this obsessive desire to find fault with musical elements...there is enough of that in real life....music is my escape:p

This is a 10 from me as well. It is difficult for me to expand on the all the positive things that have already been said. So I wont try. The vote of 10 says it all.

I also gave a few listened to all the CD outtakes a few times, Many I had never heard before. Anyone else notice that the track What's the New Mary Jane is mis- tagged on the actual disk as What's the News Mary Jane ?:LOL::LOL::LOL:

CD's? What CD's? lmfao! Mine have not been lifted from their cradle....

I gave this a 10 a few weeks ago after just listening to the surround discs, but never got around to posting. Love the outtakes and just finished the Esher demos, which I also loved. All the extras deserve a 10 of their own IMHO.
Agreed. The outtakes are like getting a full fidelity bootleg. Some of them are pretty good. Some are weird.

I play the CDs during my commute to work. I usually play everything in these sets at least once.
