Nothing says Yacht Rock more than "Christopher Cross/Christopher Cross", that Grammy winning album from way back when. I know every song by heart even though I haven't heard the whole thing in decades. Tried to SPEC it once, it came out horribly. Would have made a great Quadradisc.

Put it on and you'll ride like the wind in your yacht.

have you tried the album through the Surround Master? i'll give it a go over the Summer.. hope it decodes like the wind! 🌬

Rupert Holmes - Escape "The Pina Colada Song" - gets my vote. No song brings back that So Cal Yacht Rock feeling of the late 70's early 80's than that one for me. (and I am a So Cal guy who can appreciate the genre)

BTW - FredBlue let me know how Cristopher Cross comes out. I have considered getting the HDtracks 24/96 and then using Cirlinca's 5.1 plug in. Now, I fear that may not be the way to play it, (after reading Jon's post).

R. Crumb (yes, THAT R. Crumb) & His Cheap Suit Serenaders released their records through Blue Goose records back in the day. In 1978, they released Party Record - a 12" 78 rpm red vinyl record (think risque) on Red Goose records. You could call these Cheap Thrills (of a sort.) I popped a second time for this on a Japan only CD.:

I've owned 4 boats. The largest was 24 ft, which is the length where yachts begin.

Perhaps I'll put this record on when my Captain comes home tonight.

William Royce (Boz) Scaggs on Big Interview w/Dan Rather AXS TV 7 PM CST this Tuesday, 6/11.

I've had Silk on LP, 1/2 speed LP, CD, MoFi Gold CD & Expanded CD.
YOU NEED IT!!

Boz Scaggs - “Silk Degrees”. The granddaddy of Yacht Rock albums.

If only it were remixed to surround. You KNOW Elliot Scheiner would LOVE to do this one!!!

Does Yacht Rock have to come from the 70s? This came out last year and I think it is a beautiful little slice of Yacht Rock. Listen to that Rhodes with the ring modulator. The Gibson hollow body through a JC-120. The synth textures. The thick harmonies on the choruses. The sitar-esque guitar solo. The almost funky bass line. The ridiculously long fade. If there is a blueprint for yacht rock, this follows it to a tee...
