From CDJapan:
To commemorate the 50th anniversary, Billy Joel's "Streetlife Serenade" becomes available as SA-CD Multi Hybrid edition for the first time in the world.

The 4-channel SACD layer is a high-quality surround mix of the quadraphonic LP analog 4-channel mix master source, mastered in DSD for the first time at Sony Music Studio in Japan. The 2-channel SACD layer is a high-quality stereo mix newly DSD-mastered from the analog 2-channel mix master source, and the CD layer is a newly mastered source converted from the SACD DSD master to PCM.

In addition, as DISC2 (high quality Blu-spec CD2), "LIVE AT THE GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL - 1975" becomes available as CD format for the first time in the world.

Additionally, this fan-coveted edition is packed with valuable memorabilia, including a 1974 US press kit, replica jackets of 7-inch singles from four countries, and two types of reproduced Japanese LP obi-strips. 7inch cardboard sleeve packaging with lyrics and a description.

I have this 4.0 version from the Audio Fidelity release many years ago. Except for all the extra stuff, above and beyond the quad disc, does anyone know if it will sound any different?
As I understand it, should be very similar except they indicate the transfer to DSD is being done by Sony so should be 'the best' transfer possible. Both would be using the exact same 4 channel source in the same manner in quad. No indications of remixing/remastering, so I doubt they'll do much if anything with the bits aside from making sure they match.

I have it in my cart but tomorrow I'm expecting a BIG DHL shipment from CD Japan containing 8 SHM/Blu Spec CDs and 2 SACDs ...... and even though I have the Audio Fidelity 4.0 I find that SONY Japan's DSD [QUAD] remastering always sounds BETTER not to mention the addition of that Blu Spec CD Premiere of Joel LIVE at the Great American Music Hall as a bonus.

I guess I'll wait a couple of days, because always when I submit my order at CDJapan, a coupon promotion will be announced one day later... Sadly I have nothing to bundle this with, but maybe something interesting is announced in the next weeks.

Since I have a couple of copies of the AF, I was hoping for Turnstiles first, but I will glad order. Hoping for something else soon before I order. I misplaced the AF and ordrered another one...and, as expected, the missing disc soon turned up.

I'm in, used it as an opportunity to grab a few other things to spread out the $25 shipping.

Hopefully they're working their way up to Glass Houses, etc.

Glass Houses was never mixed or released in Quad or 5.1. And so far, I'm unaware of Sony creating any new mixes for these releases.

Looks like another great Sony Japan 7" release but they are incorrect, of course, to say it's the first time released as SACD Multi Hybrid. I've already got the AF release, so I'm unlikely to shell out for this one, even with the bonus live disc included. Even being the completist that I can be sometimes.

This HAS to be a sure sign that Turnstiles will be next. Of course I ordered it. Can't leave a blank spot in the set. Even though it's my least favorite Billy Joel album of them all. To me, Cold Spring Harbor blows this one away, but alas, no quad on that one. Still, you gotta love Root Beer Rag! ;)
