Starting a thread on Danu upmixer. Thanks to https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/goto/post?id=830462 for binging it to my attention.

There is a video and write up on it here: https://www.spaceforaudio.com/p/the-rise-of-the-nulling-upmixer?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

and you can buy it here: https://demix.me/danu and future upgrades are included.

Can be run on windows, mac, and linux. Depends on the free tool: https://plugdata.org/ (for now. Author says native plugins are on the list).

I have it running inside plugdata vst3, inside Plogue Bidule, but you could use Reaper, etc.

My main question so far is the author needs to define what downmix setup he uses to verify the "nulling" concept, especially as he says Penteo doesn't null, when the authors of Penteo says it does.

Also, I have never bought into the "perfect down mix to original stereo" ("nulling") as an upmix criteria, because my goal is something "more sonically exciting" than the original stereo. But's let see what people think. I'll say more as I play with it (and finish watching the videos).

Perhaps it will need to a combo method, where Danu takes us from a 5.1 or 7.1 upmix to immersive?

And, of course these days we have what I call up-remixing, where you use AI to separate the stereo into different stems, optionally upmix one or more stems, then re-mix the whole thing to whatever surround speaker layout you like.
