A legend many times over. His first solo album in 1978 was a great record. Check it out if you’re not familiar. Contains “Frenchette” and “Funky but Chic” and a bunch of excellent deep cuts.
I saw him with the New York Dolls at the Whiskey in los Angeles. My buddy remembers that we stayed for both shows. Silverhead was the opener.

I saw the Dolls at the Minnesota State Fair in 1974. Somebody in the audience was hassling them about not dressing as girls for that event. Johansen shot back, "Go home and polish your father's tractor."
