A legend many times over. His first solo album in 1978 was a great record. Check it out if you’re not familiar. Contains “Frenchette” and “Funky but Chic” and a bunch of excellent deep cuts.

I saw him with the New York Dolls at the Whiskey in los Angeles. My buddy remembers that we stayed for both shows. Silverhead was the opener.

That’s sad - I always marveled that he could reimagine himself that many times.

My buddies and I you to laugh and say he should have played the father to Vince Vaughan and Jim Carrey in some movie.

As Buster Pointdexter, he performed an awesome rendition of “Oh, Me, Oh My (I’m a Fool For You Baby) on either Saturday Night Live or Fridays

I saw the Dolls at the Minnesota State Fair in 1974. Somebody in the audience was hassling them about not dressing as girls for that event. Johansen shot back, "Go home and polish your father's tractor."

A fan, purchased the ST New York Dolls LP when released, thought the pink inner jacket color was genius. To this day sing, "Traaaash", on our pickup day and leave family and friends with "I love you LUV"! Thank you David, RIP
