I also own an AVR with a poorly-performing DAC: the
Marantz SR6014. It is plagued by a non-user configurable slow rolloff reconstruction filter. If I had known this before purchase, I might have looked elsewhere, but it really seemed that this was the cheapest way to get 7.1 analogue inputs, up to 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos processing, and nine channels of amplification in one unit. So far, I'm still relatively happy with it. When I'm listening to and enjoying multichannel music, I'm not thinking about the digital deficiencies.
