Today marks a return for me to some musical roots I had left behind..after the awesome bands of the 60's and 70's...the 80's presented a big void in the music scene for me...I got into Disco...some Jazz and blues and reached back to an "old friend"...R&B music...the return to "soul" music...not the Motown type...more like the golden voice type... artists like Jeffrey Osborne and of course..."the big man"...Luther Vandross...I was really smitten with Luther's voice...so smooth...like Lou Rawls but with more depth. Luther's tenor range earned him the title of "the velvet voice"...some called him the Pavarotti of Pop..I practically wore out my laser disc of his songs...and at the time I was in a relationship and she loved Luther's voice...he did a ton of back up vocals with famous artists...and usually made cover songs sound better than the originals...he finally lost his battle with diabetes and high blood pressure and died of a heart attack at the age of 54 on July 1, 2005...the disc I purchased was his last work...he appeared on the 2004 Grammy award show to accept his song of the year award...shortly after that show he was on Oprah and that is the last time he was seen in public..

^That's a DVD-A, not a DVD-V 5.1 album like the thread title implies, but you know what is?

"Cheating the Polygraph" by Gavin Harrison

OMG, you guys! I can't remember the last time I heard a new surround album that was this inventive and original.
The mix is stellar, and the arrangements will BLOW YOUR MIND! Only downside is that it is a DVD-V, with DTS that is 48 kHz at best, instead of the 96 kHz extension we have become used to on the latest Jethro Tull releases and more.

Still, no reason not to pick up Harrison's stellar achievement! :)

Actually I was aware that it is a DVD-A...I just didn't pay any attention to the thread header...I hate all these subdivisions on here:howl

Yours is no disgrace..

Yes, in a roundabout way going for the one post can get close to the edge, and undoubtedly there is a time and a word for it fragile as that may be, if we're not careful we'll end up at the gates of delirium............ :ugham:

Looking around and hearing Wonderous Stories..I believe the Owner of a Lonely Heart will realize that Love Will Find A Way and change the mind of the fisherman by telling him to "Don't Kill the Whale", just "Shoot High and Aim Low" and Open Your Eyes" and realize "We Can Fly"

8701 - Usher (5.1 DualDisc).
<think it might be Advanced Res like the earlier DVD-A rather than DVD-V but will check over the weekend in which case I'll delete and repost in the relevant thread! :D >

Thanks for the heads up! :) I notice there's a DTS logo on the disc, I guess that's a typo then if it's only Dolby Digital 5.1 on playback.?

That's right Fredblue. Even has a dts on the cd! It's only DD 5.1 but WOW what a performance good surround too.Recorded in the studio, no audience.

If you like Clapton or even if you don't you'll enjoy one of his major influences.
