Plus the Japanese pressings are usually on far, far higher quality vinyl.

The reason it's so rare is that it's an RM (Regular Matrix) pressing, which is NOT the same as QS. QS was 'derived' from RM, so Lf-Rf-Rb-Lb share the same encoding as RM, but all other directions are encoded differently. Unlike QS, RM is a 'great circle' encoding system and, along with SQ, was standardized in Japan by the EIAJ. RM was not a 4:2:4 matrix - it called for the use of a Position Encoder, thus it was a N:2:M matrix. Like QS, however, it had the same mono and stereo liabilities, i.e. reduced separation in stereo, back channels down almost 7db in stereo, etc... RM is quite close, except for some quadrature shifts, to the CBS New Orleans Matrix, which was never commercially used.

Cheers!
Ty C. :)

Lots of big spending on eBay in the last two weeks!

Paul Simon Q8 for $110 was the big surprise for me!

Was that the self-titled album??? I was watching that one too.

Crazy I think!!@: A few weeks previous, all 3 Paul Simon Q8's in ONE Auction sold for $71

No, it was Rymin Simon

Remember, in the shocker log, you can click on the price and go right to the auction (up to 3 months after it ends. After that, the link expires because eBay trashes the info.)

Coming up on the 2 year anniversary of the SHOCKER LOG!

Anyone notice that in the past week, TWO copies of the Sound of Music Q4 sold for over $300 each!!

Showtunes must be making a comeback! The hills are alive!!! :D

Wow......proving that in the pricey world of rock collectables, the king is still...um, the king.

Well, maybe the Beatles are tops (hmmm...Butcher cover or new car?) but the big E is up there.

I had heard of this before, but never seen it. $2000 for a sticker??

Well, lookee here, another Paul Simon Q8 reaches the shocker log:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4823631767#ebayphotohosting

The considerablly less rare "Still crazy...." title at that. Granted it was sealed, but still. More of the shocker was that ...ahem ... somebody around here bid over $130 for it and didn't win the darn thing.

Guess we're all still a little crazy after all these years, eh Jon?

Well, I did the QpS transfer of "There Goes...." from a sealed eBay Q8, I was aiming to do the same thing for the other two PS titles. However, rules of sniping include tipping your hat when you get out sniped! :worthy

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you ALWAYS win when you bid the most, regardless of WHEN you place your bid!! :brew

SHOCKER LOG UPDATE AND NOTE:

I just updated the "Shocker Log", for you "Shocker Log Fans"! :D :D

Please remember that I do this "by hand", manually searching for quad, quadraphonic, etc. If you notice something that I missed, either to a listing that does not include "quad", etc, or just because I screwed up, just reply to this thread with the link and I'll get it in there.

Thanks Again

I thought these were made in Korea. I always found the mixes quite good but wow wat a price.

The original (in this auction) was pressed in Japan. The reissue (along with many like it) were pressed in Korea. Many of the Korean reissues from this series are still available on Larry Clifton's website. However, the original Japanese issues are pretty hard to find. Still, 130 bones? What nut would pay that much! :smokin

(Sorry Paul!)
