I was asking about the ELP releases....thanks paligap. In any case, I pulled the trigger on an amazon.uk order today.
Here's the only catch about the gentleman confirming that the format is DVD-Audio. We all know MANY or MOST people have no idea what DVD-Audio is...they mostly think it is just a DVD with audio!
So I just hope this guy knew what he was talking about. But then again, the track listing clearly states "[DVD-A - 5.1 Mixes]". And as far as the rest of the early catalog being remastered, he said if the sales are good, the other albums will follow. But we have see before that these projects get abandoned after a tease or two.
I want a real dvd-a as much as anyone here, but I have this feeling that it is indeed yet another case of mistaken identity. Look at the thread here about the new Ziggy Stardust disc - they've been calling that dvd-a too when it is not.
It just seems odd to me. Razor & Tie are behind the whole thing, but no R&T USA release dates? Sony being coerced by a little label into packaging a (almost dead) format that they never supported (and had their own competing format)?
I'd love these to be dvd-a, but I don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed so I still say dvd-v.
I'm not sure, but I think stormchaser may have been asking about the ELP releases, not the KEB one. I'm a little confused by the Razor and Tie posts. Are they going to release the ELP 5.1 in the US, or will we need to get them from the UK?
We can only hope that since Steve Wilson was involved in the remasters that is is truly DVD-Audio.
I'm hopeful too.. but SW's mix of Caravan's "In the Land of Grey & Pink" was only encoded in Dull-by Dog-it-all..
I mean Dolby Digital, ahem... so.. anything could happen with these ELP releases.
Yeah, Steven can suggest that it be issued in a lossless format but in reality he just gives them the audio files/tapes - they can author them into dvd-a, sacd, dvd-d dd, dvd-v dts...that's out of his control, and I don't recall where but he did say basically that when asked about the Caravan disc.
Releasing his latest work on BD is a decision made by Steven himself, as he sees this as the highest quality at the moment. Not sure where he posted this, probably on his facebook page.
Is this the Amazon US listing for the upcoming reissues?

Seems to be. If so, I'm definitely going to have to wait for reviews...at $50+ per set, this is quite pricey.
I've recently remixed 2 classic albums by ELP, their first album from 1970 and second album Tarkus from 1971, both to be released by Sony in July as 3 disc sets. In each case disc one is a CD of the original mix, disc two is a CD of the stereo remix in the form of an alternate version of the album, adding a lot of bonus material and previously undiscovered tracks recorded during the sessions. Disc 3 is an audio content only DVD containing 5.1 surround sound mixes in DTS, and PCM stereo.
It's official now, DTS, no lossless 5.1. From SW facebook page,
at least DTS, which is fine by me, when it will sound as good at TAAB2 for example.
Lossy ELP sucks, but it's better than nothing.
Surround Sound From The End of the World to Your Town..!! So, I gather that it would be Four Rooms at the End of the World, instead of Two. Or perhaps, it's 5.1 rooms...
