Any diehard ELP fan will want this one, even if they have the existing 5.1's already. But I'm not an ELP diehard--for every genuinely strong, impressive song there are two that make me laugh at their overindulgences--and the only way I would have sprung for a pricey bugger like this is if at least a few of the other albums had been remixed for MC. Without that, well, nah.

ED :)

The ONE thing that would make me think about springing for it is if they included the entire, uncut, 74 California Jam concert (with the spinning piano) surround-mixed and video-enhanced. I don't think the complete footage even exists to make it possible, but that might make me buy it.

I live in hope that it exists but that they just have not found it yet - asking for multi-channel may be too much frosting on the cake, but I'd be more than satisfied with a 2ch version of that show in its entirety.

It is my understanding that the exact footage that ABC TV aired in 1974 is what exists. This means the breaks and fades will all be the same now as shown then. Heard rumblings then yet another label change.

Yeah, that's basically what I've thought and heard, but still (very faint) hope for otherwise. Several years ago there were a few whispers of there being "clean" footage (no cartoon overlays) of that 1970 concert film known as both "Pictures at an Exhibition" and "Rock'n'Roll Yer Eyes" but of course that was not to be either.

Maybe now somebody or other will offload the DVD-A of the debut for a reasonable price. Been looking for that one for a loooong time!

This is still $150 used on Amazon US (another reason I can justify pre-ordering the box set).

Trilogy, however, just listed from a UK seller for $11.99, 30 dollars less than the next highest offer.

Perhaps the ripple effect is starting.
Happy hunting.

Ordered. It's a no-brainer for the amount of stuff for the price. Can't wait.

Absolutely! I had to order it, when you see what you get for your money in the Box Set its good value, plus I don't have every ELP album, just up to Works Vol.1. ELP's Trilogy was my 2nd ever album purchase, and I never got to see them :(, only ever on the big screen at the cinema. Getting the albums on BDA in 5.1 is a bonus, I have them all in all the other formats!

Money, huh yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, oh hoh, oh
Money huh yeah
What is it good for?

Box Sets?

Yeah, have seen that Amazon track listing, and it's probably pretty accurate, but it seems funny that after all the fuss about "Unknown Ballad" from the Tarkus DVD-A set that they would actually put it out again on this set???

It costs more money to make any changes than to simply re-press existing masters and update disc silkscreen art.

Questions. Do we know yet?

1. Did they fix the bass problem on KE9 3rd Impression for the BD, or is this just a repressing of Jakko's mix?

2. On the BD track listing, tracks 23 thru 40 either just say "(Mix)" or don't have any reference. Shall we assume they are the same 5.1 mixes as previously released on DVD-A?

No email saying its been dispatched yet over here in the UK :(, still says 27th Oct on the Pledge site, but 29th Sept. on the ELP one!

The PledgeMusic copies began shipping out today. Still no answer regarding downloads of the vinyl-only stuff so take that as a no, and they still have never dished up a proper complete tracklist for the set despite being asked by several people several times. Not a very well handled release at all.

Of course, and that makes sense if it's a straight re-press. In this case though, they've taken what was on 3 dvd-a discs and put them on a single blu-ray - isn't that almost like started from scratch with authoring the blu-ray disc from the audio file sets? Or is there a way to just import the dvd-a discs (from iso or whatever they had on hand) into a single blu-ray as is and let the software do all the work? I've never had any blu-ray software to tinker around with, never really needed it I guess.

Really I supposed it's more a matter of it being yet another example of how disorganized the ELP camp seems to be with this stuff.

That's the crux of it right there; while there is some rearranging of the assets (album tracks) into a new platform, its increasingly doubtful as this catalog changes hands repeatedly, that anyone is passionate enough about ELP's legacy to correct or enhance anything. Worse, the members seemed uninterested in doing anything about it themselves. It breaks my heart to write this.

We won't know the answer to #1 until someone gets their box and checks it out.
As for question #2, tracks 1-6, 13-20, and 23-40 are in 5.1 surround & stereo, just like on the DVDA-V releases.
Conversely, tracks 7-12 & 21-22 are stereo only as no 5.1 mixes exist for those bonus tracks.
