Hi-Res does not mean higher sample rates as that is not what resolution indicates, that is the 24-bits. Higher sample rates spread the quantisation noise inherent in any sampling process over a wider bandwidth, and allow for low pass filtering with slower roll-off
Just to be clear I do consider 24/44.1 hi res. I meant if the master was 16 bit upcoverted to 24bit (which in hindsight is unlikely as the audio would have been 16bit otherwise) Also should have mentioned that the minimum sample rate blu ray can have is 48k so conversion is required for 44.1 sources.

By the way while on this subject can 24bit audio benefit to audio quality or does it only really benefit audio engineering?

mp3 is all we need. I’d like to see an mp3 disc with the artist’s full catalog on it. 😁

Perhaps saying sole reason was overstating it somewhat; I do play surround music periodically but only when my wife is out (she typically takes over the TV room in which the surround system lives) therefore the majority of my listening is on my 2 channel system
Just remember Rang: ADAM'S RIB ...CAUSED WOMENS' LIB! 🤷‍♂️ and Diamonds are a Man's BEST friend ...in SURROUND! 💫

24-bit @ 44.1kHz up-sampled to 48kHz is not an issue, you won't be able to hear any difference.

Resolution is made up of two factors: Sampling rate (frequency) and bit depth. It's the X and Y axis in a waveform. It's common for hi res audio to have a higher sampling frequency than CD's 44.1 kHz. And given that many of these tracks are analogue recordings, they should have content above 22 kHz.

Ahh, Stereo Schmerio. How about the Atmos DR?
Ha, touche! 🙂 Sorry the below pic is a little blurry, it's quite baffling to try and extract DR values from J River. Now I know why you've added the Automated reporting in MMH!

Speaking of which, I couldn't find an exact match for the tracklist in looking up on MusicBrainz. The best way I found was to use a 2017 digital '3 disc' release (near the bottom of listings), copy each 'disc' to a text file - after deleting out the very first track 'Cold Heart' and also the "(remastered 2017)" crap. Then when I had a full list, copy that back to MMH and it should match up to the disc...

Those DRs are what I expected listening to streaming.

My BDA is on a slow plane from Heathrow, by the time it arrives someone should have added it to MusicBrainz for MMH to auto tag.

Dear Enablers,

On behalf of my dearly departed wallet (RIP 3 January 2025), I want to thank you for all your posts that have had me streaming this off and on for weeks.

Just now I got a “back in stock” alert for Who’s Next and being able to combine these two releases into an order was enough for un-budgeted insomniac retail therapy. I mean, do I need it since I have the box?

Man, I want that instrumental mix and someday my local record shop will have two options when some Gen Whatever wants a Blu-ray to hang on their wall so they can post on their holo-social media account. “The Blu-ray sounds so much warmer than my neuraudio implant… I can really feel my cilia vibrate!”

As these octogenarian Brits have said:

“Life isn't everything
Isn't everything
Isn't everything.”

— Song for Guy, Elton John

“[…]”

— The Song Is Over (instrumental), Da Hoo

Believe DR 17..!! 🤯🤷🏻‍♀️
crikey o'baba reilly 😂 👀
Are You Ready For Love & Philadelphia Freedom DR 16..!? 😅
figures Pinball Wizard would be DR 10 🥳🎹🎸🥁🤣

This explanation is somewhat strange and not entirely correct.

Resolution, sampling rate and bit depth are all concepts on the Digital Domain. I.e. are numbers, discrete numbers.

A waveform, with the X-axis time and Y-axis value is on the analogue domain, and nothing to do with Digital domain concepts.

The content on analogue recordings above 22 KHz would be surely noise from analogue equipment and not musical content. The analogue circuits may not be prepared to handle properly such high frequencies.

Don't know if this has been posted before but I found an interesting article from Dynaudio on Greg Penny's Atmos studio in California. Kinda reminds me of Cribs when the celebs get to the bedroom and say "this is where the magic happens"! Love the fact he's got a Vespa in there! 🤠
