Is anyone watching the Grateful Dead documentary on Amazon "Long Strange Trip"? Some really discrete surround effects, guitars in the rear, etc. Really well done. Especially considering some of these are out takes from the 60s and it sounds great. Really a high quality production all around.

Just watched the Warner Archive remaster of Richard Donner's Ladyhawke last night and was blown away by the visuals and aural presentation [Lossless DTS HD MA 5.1]. The score was composed by Andrew Powell and produced by none other than Alan Parsons and Vittorio Storaro's magnificent cinematography was visually captivating. This is by far the best Ladyhawke has ever looked on home cinema. It's really like watching it for the very first time.

I just received the UHD 4K Remaster of The Fifth Element along with the 4K remastered BD~V in a steelbook case from Best Buy.

I watched the remastered 4K BD~V on my projector tonight and it was absolutely stunning. Cannot wait to see the UHD 4K on my OLED flatscreen.

Both UHD 4K/4K BD~V soundtracks are remastered in Dolby Atmos. I am not set up for Atmos but it sounded amazing in 5.1.

I did not like the movie but soundtrack is truly awesome (I only have the 4k mastered blu-ray, not the UHD)

I'm not a huge SONY fan but when it comes to producing BD~Vs, especially in 4K remastered versions, they are absolute masters!

I've seen Fifth Element in just about every conceivable format and projected on a large screen, this current remaster is pretty astounding. Again, it was like watching it for the very first time. It is a virtual feast for the eyes...and EARS and I consider it one of Bruce Willis' finest roles.

Recent flicks I've watched that had some memorable surround moments are:

Aleksandr Sokurov's follow up to 90 minute one-take wonder Russian Ark. Nowhere near as good as Russian Ark but the surround mix in Dolby on the DVD (Pure Direct on the trusty Yamaha) was surprisingly discreet with some plane sounds in the rears.

Not a bad tale with some discreet jungle noises coming from all speakers + a grinding bass from the fronts and centre on some of the soundtrack.

Both movies are 2 for £15 [US: $19.63] + minimum shipping costs from England....and are VERY limited editions.

I selected the 7.1 Dolby Atmos audio that becomes Dolby TrueHD 5.1 once it leaves the KEFs and everything about it was incredible. There is tons going on in all channels pretty much constantly throughout the entire movie. I can't recall a movie with such a dynamic surround mix. Worth checking out for that alone. There was a 5.1 DTS-MA audio option on the BD too but I went with the Dolby cos the Sony said the bit rate was higher. Probably wouldn't have made any significant difference but that's what I did.

I've seen this several times and it still manages to freak me out. I found the Dolby TrueHD to be a bit bass-heavy and rather than fiddle with my settings, I just hit the ol' Pure Direct on the Yamaha. Some nice surround moments.

I agree, Kong: Skull Island [5.1] was an immersive mix. I will watch it at some point in 4K and 3D but for now I have other movies to catch up on.

Addenda: Just read blu.ray.com and Amazon Reviewer's remarks regarding the newly released 4K version of Jackson's KONG and will probably await a proper UHD 4K remaster from the original camera negative [presently, it's sourced from a 2K source.......BUMMER]!

Amazon is blowing out the SONY BD~V 4K remaster of Francis Ford Coppola's {IMO} magnificent reimagining of Bram Stoker's Dracula in an elaborate SUPREME CINEMA SERIES digibook edition for $8.42. My game plan: When I do buy the UHD 4K version in October, I'll use this elaborate casing to insert that 4K BD. The original LIST price on it was $40.

Just rented the Bluray of John Wick 2. For those fans of discreet surround 70's sytle, this movie has tons of sound effects flying around the room, and the some of the music included has moving instruments, especally the closing song at the end; it has a guitar flying around the room. Be advised though, although it's a bluray, it only has compressed Dolby Digital! Rented from Netflix. Don't know if the for-purchase version has uncompressed sound or not.

For TV shows:

"The Defenders", just released on Netflix, has a superb surround mix for action and (to some extent) for music. I highly recommend it.

Best viewed relatively loud, in a darkened room.

Great action sequences, crystal clear dialogue, and some nicely integrated music to lead the action.

I can also attest that "Daredevil" has an amazing surround mix as well. Check at 40 minutes into episode 1. Alley fight in a rain storm. Directional sound to die for!

When I purchased my Sony X~800 UHD 4K player, as a promotion I was able to choose two UHD 4K movies for free and one of them was Pride & Prejudice and Zombies :yikes

Yes, admittedly Zombie Apocalypse movies have been saturating the market for years and after three seasons of Walking Dead I refrained from watching any further seasons.

But I will say this SONY released flick was incredibly entertaining and the True HD 5.1 soundtrack is amazingly immersive [Dolby Atmos on the UHD 4K]

Well worth a look........Jane Austen meets George Romero?

Check out the scene in episode 4 with machine gun fire in the Chinese restaurant...good use of corners and some ping pong effects.

I saw Phantom of the Paradise in 74 in surround sound. Fantasia was also released in surround in 40.

No fantasia was done in a multi-speaker set up, and was ONLY at certain venues. No one had money to put in a whole sound system that must have been immense, very costly and well, dumb to invest for one cartoon. When I was a kid went top see it and did not like it! I bet though in the day it was great! But has exceed it
s time by the 60's.
Another little tid bit- Disney (I will not get into it) with it's glowing use of subliminal messages for kids, also in the mid 70's when hallucinogen's were popular, they again released it, with the added message 'Especially for now!" I always thought that was promotion of drug use.

That film was also done in super bit dvd, it had no other information only choose between DD and DTS. Nothing else, and It is as good in PQ as the BD version.
