I never appreciated the whole scream thing. Any "horror" movie that attemps to add humor falls short for me. I never liked the mix of genres. Hell, maybe that's not even what scream is...but somehow I thought it was. Never seen it.

Check it out GOS. Scream is a fun, genre-spanner. The sequels were all pointless but the original is a good time.

Godzilla vs Kong (2021) 4K:
1. The surround mix is pretty constant and discrete.
2. Lots of low lows that'll rattle the walls.
3. The battles are reasonably entertaining.
4. Pretty much everything else (script, human characters, plot, performances) is idiotic. Nothing like the 2014 Godzilla or Kong: Skull Island, both of which I found fun. It'd be good to one day get a monster movie from the monster's perspective with no human characters to spoon feed the plot contrivances. If you miss this, you're not missing much.

Dragged Across Concrete (2018) BD:
1. Lots of discrete surround activity on this one (up your surround channels ~5dB to get the most out of it) including discrete 5.1 O'Jays performances (written by the director) during the credits.
2. I found it an enjoyable watch that's excellent in all respects.
3. Ridiculously cheap at the moment: https://www.amazon.com/Dragged-Acro...H,B01621G7NE,B075XSD1Z1,B095QX7K29,B07G9QMGRM
4. If you haven't seen any S. Craig Zahler flicks (Bone Tomahawk/Brawl in Cell Block 99), go buy 'em. They're good fun.

It seems RLJE Films is a label to watch as they've released quite a few 'off the wall' mini classics on their dimunitive label ..... Brawl in Cell Block 99, Dragged Across Concrete, Mandy and Mayhem the latter which is also available in Upscaled UHD4K for under $8 [which I just ordered].

I will be seeing Dune tomorrow, for those looking for a good price on the recent 4k Arrow release, Barnes & Noble has it for $29.99, wish I had waited.

I'm sorry, I should have also said that B&N is having a 50% Arrow Sale.

WOW! I just watched my Native UHD4K of the original DUNE last night and can report it was excellent. Paid about $38 for the Steelbook Edition @ Deep Discount. Cannot wait to see the new one in IMAX. Marplot, please post your review?

OK, I'm back from Dune so where to start ...
The pre show adds included 2 ATMOS commercials that were music only so it seems a push for that which is cool.
Music ... generally complemented the movie and came from all over which was fun.
The movie was an outstanding adaption of the book, well the portion that they covered.
None of the people cast seemed out of place in their roles and most excelled.
The shields were SO much better than Lynch's lunchbox approach.
The VOICE .. well you have to make some choices and at least this one worked. It didn't upset me nor make me think they are using their Cookie Monster metal voice while using it.

My wife who has never read the book and hated the Lynch said this is the first time she has understood what was going on and the factions involved.

I don't really want to say too much and give away some adaption decisions but I will state with great verve and passion that they nailed it. This was the Dune experience we have been waiting for.

On a sidenote, don't be surprised to see memes pointing out just how much Lucas stole from Dune for Star Wars.

See it on the big screen, it is worth it.

On TV this morning they mentioned Dune Part 2 has got the production go ahead for October 2023 release to theatres.

Another favourite movie of mine, The Great Escape is being released on 4K UHD BD in January.

now you hooked me, because even after prolly 5 viewings over the years, I still don't understand Lynch's version o_O

I really had no problem understanding Lynch's 'aborted' version of Dune but if you watch the bonus features his original cut was well over 3 1/2 hours long and the studio, as usual, whittled it down to just over 2 hours. And of course at the time CGI was hardly as sophisticated as it is today so everything was done in real time except the mattes they utilized for the backgrounds. Even Dune's author Frank Herbert appeared frequently on the set and was encouraged by what he saw.

I have no doubt, the new DUNE is superior and it was probably an intelligent choice to divide it into Parts I and II and of course CGI today is way beyond what Lynch and Company were privy to in 1983-84!

Lynch's Weirding Modules leave me cold every time I see them; bad choices transcend CGI and edits. But yes, better CGI allowed parts of the movie to flow that struggled in the two previous adaptations and they nailed the ornithopters.

I really liked the subtle manner they displayed Mentats in action; my wife noticed it even in the absence of any explanation.

1977 Star Wars IV A New Hope
was literally just one part of an original 3 part, then 6 part, then 12 part "Trilogy" so I'm sure Hollywood can find a way to STRETCH Herbert's vision into a multi-billion dollar cult following if they so desire, I'm talking to you Disney! lol

Yeah but the Dune books get a bit weirder as the go. The Honored Matres would pretty much veer the series into soft **** and I doubt the Mouse wants to go there.

Netflix is now streaming Season 2 of its hit series LOCKE AND KEY in UHD4K [Dolby Vision] and IMO, a series well worth your attention. Creatively inventive with a series of twists and simply astounding special effects and a wonderful surround soundtrack...and now renewed for a Season 3! Based on the comic book series by Joe Hill.
