I lost hundred of vinyl albums, about a hundred cassettes, and some laserdiscs in the post hurricane Gordon rains a month ago. Runoff from saturated ground took a turn into the homestead, and into the basement where some of the old collection was stored. Two Peaches crates of albums destroyed (for those of you old enough to remember what those are--I know you're out there). I was out of the country...by the time I returned, too much mold to salvage.

This is just another example of what makes this forum so special.....here is a man in the UK worried about something happening in the US because it could affect some members on herethat concern for one another...trust me when I tell you that you don't see that very often on these forums...usually some member would be complaining about the thread being off topic...instead we have genuine concern from the people here...and of course our fearless leader Jon even posted....in a time when most search for the worst in people...we have a group that exhibits the kind of qualities we all hope for in our friends and family....we are certainly blessed to have quality people surrounding us on here
This one will be directly in my path....projected to be Cat 3 when it hits..125 MPH winds..funny thing is the power was lost today for a few hours because a transformer blew...I think the power lines are even afraid this time.Sad to see another one 'Milton' already headed towards Florida, due to possibly hit Wed. looks like; hope you folks can hang in there

I'm not going to leave....I'm in a concrete block Condo built in the 70's...my real concern is that I live on the top floor and 125 mile winds could blow those tiles off the roof...the roof could be damaged, or those tiles could end up being projectiles which end up in my bedroom.Same here. I'm glad you live in a safe building. Let us know how you fare from it.I'm not going to leave....I'm in a concrete block Condo built in the 70's...my real concern is that I live on the top floor and 125 mile winds could blow those tiles off the roof...the roof could be damaged, or those tiles could end up being projectiles which end up in my bedroom.

just food for thought Clinty. Concrete block is fine as long as it is steel rod reinforced. I assume - based on locale - that it isI'm not going to leave....I'm in a concrete block Condo built in the 70's...my real concern is that I live on the top floor and 125 mile winds could blow those tiles off the roof...the roof could be damaged, or those tiles could end up being projectiles which end up in my bedroom.
It used to be a great place to live until the Klingon moved in and the neighborhood went downhillClinty, time to RELOCATE to
Yes it is re-enforced...they don't build them like that anymore....at least in Florida they don'tjust food for thought Clinty. Concrete block is fine as long as it is steel rod reinforced. I assume - based on locale - that it is
But a Cat 2 hurricane can still rip tiles off roofs leaving them vulnerable. Let's hope it diminishes in force once it reaches landfall.just food for thought Clinty. Concrete block is fine as long as it is steel rod reinforced. I assume - based on locale - that it is
Well it has been here since the 70's and a lot of storms have hit the building...and it will be a Cat 3 at 125 MPH if the projection is correct...and I've been in this position before and guess what...the storm moved and didn't hit here and it happened to go to Orlando....that is where people that live here went to get away from the storm...But a Cat 2 hurricane can still rip tiles off roofs leaving them vulnerable.
